Legacy of Liberty (Campaign)
Legacy of Liberty
This is the Legacy of Liberty (or lol) campaign, a parody campaign which doesn't take itself seriously and focuses heavily on game mechanics and not so much on the story or terrain. One nice feature of this campaign is the map mechanics. Each map is entirely different in the way that it plays, so much so, in fact, that each level requires its own data editing, like an arcade map. As a result, the campaign has no mod file, so it's easily installed. Just download the campaign file, extract it, put the maps anywhere you want, open one up, and test document.
The main characters are Tychus Findlay and one of Raynor's most trusted soldiers, Mr. Marine. The campaign follows their adventures throughout the starcraft 2 storyline. How does Tychus live, you ask? Play it and see.

I'd just like to say that this campaign was a lot of fun to build and I really really like some of the concepts in these missions I did end up releasing. I'd also like to confess that during the production of mission 5, I came upon the realization that these missions were taking far longer than originally expected to build because each one was essentially its own arcade map since it didn't have a mod that brought it all together, I had to do separate data editing for each map and each one was pretty significant. Mission 5 is actually almost done, but I realized after putting all my ideas together for it that I didn't like the result, that's why it was never released. I spent at least twice as long on mission 5 as any other mission and I was in denial of starting over, but I wasn't happy enough with how it was going to continue. I would like to return to finish this campaign at some point, but I'm still not up for rebuilding mission 5, so I'll be packaging it up for "release" sometime soon so you can all try it; it just won't really be complete, polished, or even that great. There's some nice things in it though, like some of the enemies are nicely designed and in this mission you get a hero with a bunch of optional abilities and upgrades. I don't just mean you pick 2 of 4 abilities and there's one optional upgrade per ability, I mean I made something like 10 abilities for your hero and each one has 2 options for some significant enhancements, diablo 3 kind of style and there were even more upgrades, a lot of which was passive stuff. Anywho, I'll be focusing on the hybrid project for now and I hope to finish the side project I work on next time.
Sup. Decided to give your campaign a spin. I like how you're basically crapping on everything that would be the smart choice in favor of wtf factor. Kinda fun.
I did mission 2, and I want to let you know that the barrack walls meant to separate the Odin and Thor can be slowly blasted down with batteries. I don't think this is intentional. I thought about the seemingly useless teleporter near the boss fight and realized that you're supposed to teleport batteries in and use them to damage the ship. I feel kinda dirty know but at least I did it my way hah.
The abilities in map five don't seem that great... The AoE that the flame wall provides is outdone by the sheer attack speed of flamethrower and flamecannon you can get up to via passives (0.4), and the single target spell is outdone by a weapon you can get.
I expected most wouldn't find either of them particularly funny. I just made sure the player understood throughout the whole thing that it wasn't a serious story. (Though there are a few things I put in that I laughed at, myself, before I put them in)
I will see about increasing the difficulty of individual enemies (somehow) and decreasing the number of individual fights for my first update (along with the next mission).
Thanks for your feedback.
Edit: Random thought, it just occured to me that I can make the boss untargetable and unselectable to make the fight a little less sloppy on the player's side.
Some feedback/thoughts on the first 2 missions:
M1
- Like Terhonator, I also enjoyed the charge based ability to heal.
- I don't think there was too much dialogue, but I didn't really find it funny. That just comes down to personal preference and I'm sure some people will find it humorous.
- I really liked the dark medic's ability to damage while healing, probably my favorite part of this mission.
- The enemy groups were too monotonous though - you would find a group of 3-4 enemies, kill them, walk a little further, find the next group, and repeat.
M2
- I enjoyed playing this mission much more than M1.
- I liked the fact that you had to switch back and forth between the 2 heroes to progress and the small puzzles in between.
- I liked the parts where you had to kill the enemy barracks to stop them from respawning.
- Similar to M1, I feel like the groups of enemies were too numerous and monotonous. The mission ended up taking me about an hour and got repetitive towards the end, where there wasn't too much difficulty besides having to take out several large group of enemies.
- The battlecruiser boss fight was really well done and interesting. I had to save load a couple of times to beat it but it was fun. I liked that you had to work together and teleport the item in order to damage it. The only semi annoying thing was when you tried to heal the Thor, you were essentially screwed since the battlecruiser would non-stop attack you until you died.
So in summary, I would suggest reducing the number of enemy groups in both missions, or at least vary them up a bit. This should make M2 a little shorter and easier, since the mission length and difficulty spike is pretty large compared to M1. Oh and I really enjoyed the abilities you had in M2.
Thanks for the feedback, it's the first and it's very useful. :)
Yes, there is a fail safe. All allies on the map are invulnerable on the map, including the dominion. It is only after you bring the torrasque along with you that they are made vulnerable and hostile.
Could you possibly explain what made the mission feel weird?
Hey. I added you to CCI project. I played 1st mission, some feedback:
- I don't usually like abilities with charges but in this mission it worked well.
- A bit too much text and dialogue for me.
- When I found Torrasque it was bit unclear for me what I am supposed to do
- Does the mission have fail safe mechanism if player attacks Dominion before finding Torraque?
- In general the mission was weird but that is completly understandable for parody campaign.
Looks awesome. I'll get Jayborino to put up on the CCI page.
