Deep Trouble
Full-fledged underwater mission in the third person perspective. Features detailed water effects including realistic camera distortion (think Vashj'ir in Wow).
Play the part of Clod, a reckless mercenary who was shot down over the waterlogged planet of Permea. His ship has come to rest on the sea floor and it's up to you to help him find a way back into space.
haha funny story line, good job
A tutorial for the visual effect can be found here- http://forums.sc2mapster.com/resources/tutorials/18156-tutorial-camera-distortion-for-underwater-maps/
Would you be able to place dummy units that would create the effect all over the map or possibly have triggers create the actors around a map that is more of a not follow the unit map but still kind of small. I would like to use it for a hero arena map. Would this lag up some players?
Do you plan to do a tutorial with the underwater sunshine effect. That would make it just perfect.
In regards to the 'breadcrumb' effect with the health pack - you'd be surprised. If you feel like it, check out my "The Turning" map (should be there if you hit my profile). It's a 1-player map where you control Gabriel Tosh through 20-30 minutes of RPG-style play. I've balanced it so that health and mana packs are actually needed fairly desperately, and if you manage to micro well enough to end up next to a health pack without having any health lost, then saving one for later can be a great boon. Because I had to optimize to beat my own map, I automatically did the same in yours.
Hey Mozared,
1. That's kind of funny, seeing as how I intentionally put the health pickup there as a "breadcrumb". It never occurred to me that someone would skip it - but you're right there should be a means to ensure the event is triggered regardless. Perhaps a secondary trigger zone.
2. I'll remember that.
3. Good catch. I hadn't thought about the possibility of a player trying to proceed without completing the objective.
Thanks for the helpful feedback! =)
I quite like the map, nice job. Just three little comments;
1) The first time around, I skipped the first health package because I was still at nearly full health and didn't want to waste it. This resulted in the cinematic with the Reapers never loading and I basically wandered into the marine outpost, killed everything and got completely stuck. You might want to use pathing blockers or such to prevent this.
2) Make sure units get deselected when you enter a cinematic. It's a little thing, but it makes them that much better. I had a green circle hovering around Clod everytime I was watching something.
3) Similar to bug #1, at the Terran base part, once I had killed the power, I only killed one part of the gate before moving through. This resulted again in me being able to walk all the way to the Stargate and nothing really happening until I walked back and shot the rest of the gate.
Aside from that, a really good and simple mission. Might be a little bit too easy, but overall a nice little map to play through once if you're short on time.
Yeah, that's only because I was running fraps. It runs at 50+ FPS on my machine on normal circumstances :)
Looks really promising! looks like it was causing some lag there though?
A+!!!!!!
This is amazing, very nice work.
