Badling Defense
Badling Defense is a single player map where you are allowed most protoss and terran units, and must fight off 10 waves of zerg units.
You are granted minerals and vespene for each unit you kill, but defend wisely! You are only rewarded the square root of the value of the unit you killed!
The best way to win is to balance your spending of minerals and vespene.
Changes in 1.5:
- I taught myself how to make a UI for this map, before I was just using text messages.
- 10 levels, now balanced well.
- New terrain design!
- Opening cinematic!
- New triggerlib organization for modability!
Please comment on what you think of the map, the trigger coding, and whatever.
For fucking around or being noob-accessible , there are cheats you can enter into chat: "like a toss" gives you one of the boss units. "holy mother of" gives you a mothership. typing "level " then a number 0-10 will start the final wave for your current level then send you to the level after the number you entered. (10 sends you to the boss) typing "color " then a number 0-15 will change your color (based on the color array) typing "handicap" then a number will give you that many more minerals per kill
DISCLAIMER: the standard settings for this map are set to VERY HARD. if you do not have AWESOME unit knowledge and micro, don't expect to win without setting a handicap.

too much gas per kill and not enough minerals. At the end of round 5, I was sitting at 5k gas and no minerals.
Seems MUCH harder since 1.5.
The main issue is it seems you HAVE to make the right units for each wave, yet you don't get much gas at all per kill.
Going from wave to wave it seems to alternate between hard and easy, however. For example, wave 1 is super easy, yet wave 2 is fairly hard. Then wave 3 is super easy, and wave 4 is really hard. Not sure if that's intended(Or if it's just what I've been doing).
Also, there seems to be a bug that sometimes makes you win after the first wave, it's happened to me 2 times so far, but not every time.
20k? how'd that happen? Maybe if you had spent that on units, you wouldn't have lost?
Also, did you use thors' shock cannons? a few of those buy you some time.
I did some nerfs for 1.5.1, they appear to have done WAY too much.
Edit - woah, the boss is coming out in mid -lvl 10, supposed to be after. getting right on that
Poor difficulty scaling, and I wish there was more to do than just mass units:
First 5 minutes: Only part that takes micro/was challenging Everything leading up to the boss: Cake - I just massed tanks, Thors, and BCs The Boss: Ridiculous - I had a surplus of about 20k minerals and still managed to lose

Managed to kill the boss with bunker/marine into pure bcs from the 2.->end yamatoing the corrupters and countering infestors with an observer but the strategy by aeroin is much easier :D very nice map
You know what's embarrassing? I'm a high gold / low platinum level player, and a map maker, and I did not know until know that you could auto cast repair.
And yeah, autorepair make the first 4 levels cake... I am really happy with the balance of the 5th level though, infestors are the bomb :D
Here's my strat, still working on the best set-up.
Wave 1: 4 reapers (eat zerglings for breakfast) and rest marines. then build order is scv, then bunker, scv, bunker, 2 tanks when you get the gas, enough marines to fill the bunkers, then mass scv (make sure auto-repair is on!).
Wave 2: 2 tanks, 2 colossi, rest mass marine. (No siege mode! Tanks deal more damage to roaches unsieged.)
Wave 3: all tanks into siege mode, mass viking
Wave 4: 3 colossi when you can, mass marine
Wave 5: mass voidray
Boss: melts like butter.
I start with all marines, then the next 200 minerals goes to 2 medivacs, I don't use bunkers till around 100 kills - they are essential for the final swarm for level 1 tbh.
Another strategy is getting a colossus and the rest marines.
Also, remember to try unit combinations that you normally don't have, like medivac/zealot, siege/tank sentry, and colossus/marine, all of which are grossly powerful.
Tip: Calldown MULEs to repair bunkers.
Don't forget any unit you train will be automatically added to control group 1, so you can easily huddle up your units.
I'd really like some feedback on if anyone can still beat the 4th and 5th levels, and then the boss; without using any handicap or cheats. I did it once, by nailing every single level and countering every unit perfectly. The roach final pushes really beat the shit out of you. Forcefields and finalpush timers are your friend.
x3shift. you need to build forward bunkers. in front where all the units spawn.
my typical start is spend everything on 1 scv and marines. the first 100 mins go to a bunker, second 100 mins goes to a second bunker. and just mass marines for phase 1. hopes that helps get you started. :)
wow this is incredibly difficult. cant even set up in the beginning. swarms wayyy too fast to get any type of set up rdy. i can get to 90 badlings killed and then ill die. also, the random spawning of the units is annoying. if i build a bunker wall, all the badlings just surround the units that spawn outside. should have the units come from one point not randomly.
Try 1.1b, that should be tougher. Siege tanks were way too spammable without friendly fire.

At first i didn't see the ultralisk and bought like 6k mins worth of voidrays but he already died against my tankarmy. 2 Bunkers + 10 scvs + 12 tanks + 8 thors + mass marines beats everything without losing a single unit.

The only thing you have to do is remember to use it before you upload a new version, and figure out which file is the backup and which is the fixed version.

Still not localized. I don't think I'll ever get around to doing that, it seems like a lot of work tbh, for ppl who hate America :P
oh crap, forgot to get rid of the mothership from the nexus. at first I thought you were talking about the mothership from the cheat, but yeah. fixing it now.
Need to nerf the mothership cloak. No detection from the enemy means you can wall off with bunkers turrets and whatever unit you please and be invulnerable as long as you protect the Mothership. Also fix localization.
