Heart of the Swarm Update
Blizzard recently posted an article here with an update for Heart of the Swarm. Many of the abilities shown in the video have been seen before, but the balance video and changes are below for those who are curious.
- Protoss Status
- The protoss have access to the "mothership core" unit, which is a stationary caster capable of defending the base and using powerful abilities.
- The oracle is back, this time packing a powerful cloaking field.
- The tempest returns with a long-range offensive attack.
- Terran Status
- Battle Hellions are still in the game, and are great at close-combat situations
- Warhounds are also still in the game, and excel at taking down mechanical units.
- Widow mines attach to nearby foes and then detonate after a few seconds
- Zerg Status
- Swarm hosts now spawn 2 locusts, but the locusts are ranged and can target air units
- The Viper still has it's abduct ability (which uses a tentacle to pull units around) as well as it's blinding cloud
- The Ultralisk still has the burrow charge ability, which allows it to move into range quickly

Yup, Tempest is a harass unit. Its for PVP against Collosus, since most Protoss never get a stargate.
And what about a CAPITAL ship with 300 life and 150 shield? The 22 range is so op they had to nerf the unit's live into nothingness. So, you can't use Tempests in close fights because they die quickly... which means Mutas, Vikings, Corruptors, Phoenixes, Void Rays wil own Tempests because they are cheaper and faster....

Dont forget the Re-named Goliath.... Oh that unit never existed, the only difference is that its missiles Hit land and air lol.
Mothership core? That's just a fancy name for "mothership'a abilities moved to the nexus". 22 range for tempests? will be nerfed before release... HAS to be nerfed before release. Cloaking moved to Oracles? Can't Blizzard make a support protoss ship WITHOUT cloaking field? lol. But I like that protoss have a "not-unique" support ship.
And Battle Hellions always looked like "the firebat is great but we won't put it back... so here's a mech version of it" With the disadvantage of being mechanical thus not healed by medivacs. Widow Mines? No player will leave the targeted unit in the middle of his army like in that video lol. Specially when there's a huge red countdown over the unit! And then again it looks like "spider mines were so cool but we won't put Vultures back so, here's the spider mine model with a new name for you".

Yeah, but I just dont think it feels like a full expansion, then again there could be more units in the campiagn that are new, IE the Predator, So thinking about that, it could be cool,
Dont worrie I am way too much a fan NOT TO BUY IT, but the ultralisk thing still feels like something that should have been a patch.... lol
I'm sure it will be great, But still I wish there was a bit...More, Zerg needs more Air units, I guess that is one Air, but still a Teir 4 air would be nice, or give the Broodlord an Air attack upgrade.

For protoss, there is the mothership core, the oracle, (that makes about 7 new spells) and the tempest. Thats 3 unit bro. The tempest has an upgrade to fire 22 range, so there is the one you wanted. Your only point is that it needs a new building. Well.. you may be right on that..
On your point about i've played no strategy, glad you know me. I play nearly almost exclusively strategy games: Age of empires 1,2+ex,3+ex1+ex2; AoM+ex; civil war general II; C&C 2,3+ex, general+ex, RA 1, RA2+ex, RA 3; Empire earth 1,2; Lords of Magic (ahah); Populous 2; Populous 3 the beginning; Rise and Fall Civilisation at war; Rise of Legend; Rise of nations + ex; Star wars battleground; starCraft 1+ex, 2; Stronghold 1+ex; The Battle For Middle Earth 1+2; Tzar; Universe at War Earth Assault; Warcraft 1,2+ex,3+ex... And those are just which I have installed on my PC right now..
The new Merc/Items in warcraft 3 aren't what you can call new stuff.. Almost like saying the new ice critters from HOTS are addons.. but I agree the 8 (was it?) Merc heroes were a nice upgrade. Warcraft 3 was cheaper, Yes. But it was nearly 10 years ago. Since then, every prices went up. I got my Warcraft 3 Battle chest 1-2 year after release for 75$. Wasn't Starcraft 2 digital purchase 20$ on christmas?
Last thing, don't forget there is LotV coming in 3 years. If they were both adding 3 units, that makes 6 new units which is a DARN lot.

Glad you know soo much about stratagy, I can tell you have played... nothing? Actually WC3 TFT added alot more then 3 units and a building, And right now its 2 units per race and an upgrade.
TFT added alot of new mercs, Items, Hero mercs, and a few other Variables.
I can honestly say without even asking, that I have def played more Stratagy games then you, If you can name 1 i have probably played it, From the Entire C&C series, to the AOE series, Halo wars, All warcrafts, starcrafts, AOM, Tropicana, White and Black. I could go forever. Rise of nations. lol
Im just stating that for the 40-60$ that this will cost, That it isnt enough... Not considering we are loosing the carrier too, even though there isnt much use for it outside of Team QuickMatch gameplay.
And WC3 TFT was cheaper... so lets not forget that.
If the expansion is 30$ then my whole point is Mute, but otherwise, I would expect atleast 3 units 1 building/Upgraded building per race, and 1-2 new upgrades.
And blizzard has stated that it wont cost as much as the normal game which is 60, So that means anywhere from 30-55, and if its on the higher end then its really not enough.

Seems you have no clue what a good strategy game is about. Have you played Age Of Empire 3 ? There were 4 freaking different types of canons... SURE more units makes it need more counters, but darn, we ain't playing Rock/Paper/Scisor, units most stay a bit viable. In that game you could have 40 infantry and die to two stupid canons.
Have you played warcraft ? The frozen throne added 3 unit and a single building (market) per race! OMG this sucks !?! NOPE that expension was badass and added enormous strategy. Same for BW, 2 units for terran: Medic and valkyrie. Same for Diablo 2 : 2 new heroes....
Doesn't make it work your time? Where do you spend time? The enormous travel of going to the market place and coming back?!? That asuming you aren't buying it Digital !?? The MAXIMUM 6 hours of work (if you have a freaking minimal salary loser job for student like me) you need to pay the game??
A tier 6 you say?? Battle Cruisers are nearly NEVER used in match up. Blizzard buffed their speed and made them faster to train.. You think somebody will go for Jesus-The-Robot tier 6 ??? Or a Stone-Zealot with Jet pack tier 6 ??? That would be nothing more than a shity packs where they try to fullfilll your command card spot with stupid crappy icon/model...
I may have went a bit hard on my post, sorry if I insulted you, but your point seems incredibly stupid in my mind.

Toss balance is ok, it has great units that can be countered (Zerg, if you saw a toss get tempest, you can easily get some corrupters and bing bang boom -> dead and considering they are slow and have a slow attack speed, those corrupters can tear them down easily, Terran can just build some vikings and the same will happen [If you split the units up]). Zerg units are ok as well when it is a Protoss vs Zerg game, but when it is a Zerg vs Terran game, what can Terran do? Ultralisks will decimate everything with charge, swarm hosts can tear down the base in minutes and the viper can obliterate tanks like crazy (considering they are stationary). At the end of the day, Terran needs some serious buffs while Protoss and Zerg units are build fantastically.
The Warhound will probably say goodbye to the boring siege the whole center and make 1 hr game TvT!
just a heads up, the warhound does not spawn the widow mines, they are produced from a factory.(looks like theres some wrong info there :P) i agree that terran got absolutly nothing in this expansion, but toss's tempest looks OP with that 22 range upgrade. sux that binding cloud does nothing to toss (cuz it only effects bio). looks like terran is dead. gonna switch to zerg now...
Tempest looks like a BW Guardian and with this attack cooldown. Toss has the most imba units, then the Viper, lol Oracle
I dont think 2 units and 1 upgrade for each race to be Expansion Worthy.... really There should be atleast 2 buildings, 3 units, and 4 upgrades to make it Worth my time, And by Legacy of the void I would like to see a New Teir of units a Teir 6 for each race would be awesome.
But blizzard is removing units to add these.
The Battle Report was so amazing I find Wings of Liberty matches boring now.
I want those freaking awesome units! The new mechanics they are bringing is pure awesomness!

Nice catch. I noticed the changed model but not the ranged attack. I'll fix the news post.
The swarm host HAS changed. It spawns 2 locusts, but now, those locusts are ranged and can target air.
That battlereport is awkward...
how can you talk about balance without knowing the amount of damage these units will do at the release date?
