Little Unit, Big Map by Qwesar
Little Unit, Big Map is a gorgeously dark & stylish adventure, where you control a tiny, weak unit, who isn't in much combat directly, yet there is plenty of action. The factions are the reward of this map. You get to be part of a sophisticated & well designed faction after you complete their grand quest. The map also sports a balanced, intense final boss fight, plenty of platforming & dreary land wandering.
My Thoughts
Final Note
This game needs some simple fixes and then it would be a great map.
If there is nothing engaging about the play mechanics, one questions why bother play it.
Demon Souls and its predecessor have demanding, controller-crushing combat mechanics, an old-school difficulty curve (a vertical line), and are engaging at least insofar as they require focus and precision or you will perish.
The comparison to Dear Esther is not apt, either, since this map doesn't have the benefit of a narrative, there is no story to experience, nor does it have the quality of immersion in a beautifully rendered landscape that makes the journey to each narration-trigger node more than slog.
As an exercise, it's fine; no one leaps to accomplishment before crawling through practice. As a map, as a game, it does not merit attention. More consideration needs to be given to the design of gameplay mechanics, something involving more choice than where to move.
Thanks for commenting. I wanted to make a simple map that didn't have to be learned, it could just be played.
The games Demon Soul's and Dark Soul's inspired me to create that lonely creepy adventure feel.
If you want me to play your maps or look at something be sure to message me, I've been super active here lately and want to encourage the creative map process.
This map is pretty but the mechanics of it seem like 25% done at best
The graphical style is really cool.
Is this some sort of Dear Esther?
A point-and-click adventure game, minus puzzles, humor and narrative.
what did i just watch exactly?
