Maybe try changing the event from when the unit takes damage to when a unit does damage to another unit. This way its triggered from the attacks perspective rather than the shielded units pov. For instance, if i'm attacking a unit with a shield, show shield. If i'm attacking a unit with no shield, show no shield.
However if you have multiple attackers it could cause a lot of needless triggers
I'm not exactly sure what is going on, I don't think I'm doing anything wrong, but when I make an attribute buff (agi etc for creating a leveling system) and then try to add it to my leveling behavior (veterancy), it is not one of the options in the drop down list, is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong or is there a workaround for it? I also had this problem when trying to create a unit via duplication, when I tried to add the unit to the actor it was not in the drop down list
it's really frusterating me and basically hampering my mapping, the only thing that I seem to be able to do right now is work on triggers/terrain and edit units (instead of creating them) till I can get this figured out...
Edit: apparently saving and closing the editor and re-opening it solves this problem, kinda annoying but at least it works now
