I consider myself to be rather skilled at Terraining maps. If you want to see example's of a map I am working on, Let me know and I will give you a grand tour of my map, Last Stand - Telara.
I am currently in need of someone skilled with Triggers to aid me with my map, Last Stand - Telara.
What the map is:
It is, currently, a basic melee map with heroes.
I feel as though many players have lost touch with the RTS basis the game is built and designed around. Many play TD's, Frenzies, and Tug's. Which in their own right are good maps. However they don't require the level of skill a RTS map requires.
The Reason Help Is Needed: I have very, very limited knowledge with triggers. I managed to bullshit my way through the Warcraft 3 Triggers, but even they were haphazard and shotty.
What I Need: When the game starts up, I need 7 Buttons to appear on the screen.
On the Left Side I need 3 Buttons with Protoss labeled above them, And each button below that to be named and have a portrait of, Zeratul, Karass, Urun.
Zeratul's Button: Take command of Zeratul forces in the Northwest. Zeratul's Abilities; Blink, Psi Shield, Void Spheres
Karasses Button: Take command of Karasses forces in the Northeast. Karasses Abilities; Psi Storm, Plasma Surge, Spirit Bolt
Urun's Button: Take command of Urun's forces in the Southwest. Urun's Abilities; (Nothing Yet, Coming up with Phoenix Abilities is a pain :P)
On the Right Side, I need 4 buttons, with Terran labeled above them, and each button below that to be named and have a portrait of, Jim Raynor, Nova, Tyhcus Findly, Zackary Baden(Raynor's Portrait)
Jim Raynor's Button: Take command of Jim Raynor's forces in the South East Area. Jim Raynor's Abilties; None yet, Working on it :P
Nova's Button: Take Command of Nova's forces in the South East Area. Nova's Default Abilities; Psionc Radar, Cloak, Nova's Abilities; Snipe (More to come)
Tychus Findly's Button: Take Command of Tychus Findly's Forces in the South East Area. Tyhcus Findly's Ablities; Shredder Grenade (More to come)
Zackary Baden's Forces: Take Command of Zackary Baden's Forces in the South East Area. Zackary Baden's Abilities; Penetrator Round (More to come)
Whenever a player clicks on a button, A cancel icon thing covers that button, making it unable for someone else to click it, and to let the rest of the players know someone has already chosen that hero/race.
Give it a 20 second timer, and the players that haven't chosen anything yet, are randomly given what's left.
I gave it a few shots, and it crashed the game. I really have no idea how to do any of that^ And I know it's probably a big job. But, With the Lobby Player Slots not corresponding with ingame players, This type of thing is the only way I can think of to kill two birds with one stone, choosing your race and hero at the same time.
Eventually: I will be adding in automated attack waves that land randomly around the map. That way it has more of a twist than just a regular RTS, but still generates that RTS feel and skill level. There is also a hostile Zerg computer player that attacks both sides. However I am having problems with it's AI atm.
Basicly what I want to happen, Is it to lock and automatically change players Races depending on what team they are in. Team One can only be Terran, and Team Two can only be Protoss.
So, For my map I am making, I have Three Teams. You cannot choose your race.
One Team of -Four- Terran Players
One Team of -Three- Protoss Players, with A Computer (Total Four)
One Team of -One- Zerg Computer
My problem: In the Lobby, It is mixing up the Protoss and Terrans between the two teams. Sometimes It will put 1 Protoss, and 3 Terran, or vise versa. I've tried locking them through the Variants, and assining them to Team 1 and Team 2. It still happens, So I locked the settings all together. That worked. However, Now you can't switch teams. Any way to fix this -without- Triggers? I pretty terribad at Triggers, and I am already trying to figure out how to do a Hero Selection with Triggers. So I would like to try and avoid Triggers.
All else fails, and I do have to use Triggers. I would want it to be something that pops up for all 7 players in game,
And basicly let them free for all it, choosing who they want. Obviously choosing Zeratul's Forces would give you Zeratul as your hero. Killing two birds with one stone?
If anyone can walk me through, or even Volunteer to do that, leave a message. Or has an answer to fix this in the Variants. :D
Whilst giving my heroes for my map abilities, I stumbled across this premade ability for Zeratul called Void Spheres. I thought it sounded cool, so I decided to make it the ultimate for my Zeratul Hero. I made a learn button for it, added it to my Learn Abilities ability. Gave the ability and such to Zeratul, All the annoyances. I didn't add any levels to it. I just left it as the regular base level. Didn't change any info other than the damage, I increased it a bit. Anyways. I went into game to test the ability out, See what it does, From what I gathered from the effects and such, It looks to nuke the main target, while doing aoe splash damage to nearby units. I ran the hero into a group of zerglings, and used it. He used the ability, Energy was drained, and nothing. No damage, nothin. So, using my knowledge of failed other spells I thought to myself, 'Hm! Same thing happened to my Spirit Bolt ability. I was missing Movers.' So I went back into the Data editor and checked out the LaunchMissle and LaunchMissleSecondary, And Whamm, Nothing in Movers+. So, again using my knowledge from passed experiences, 'Hm, Photon Cannon mover fixed my other ability, maybe it'll fix this one!'.
Saved, Reentered for testing. Ran back to the Zerglings. Used the ability.
..
...
Annnd, WHAM! Zeratul instantly dies, Zerglings are unharmed.
Figured it. It was a combination of me being a noob and trying to keep it simple. Just had to create some level 2/3's for other effects. Works great now. Thanks DrSuperEvil
I am working on a map and have created several different heroes with different abilities for them. Anyways, I decided to take the Penetration Round type attack from the Campaign and give it three levels. I created the three different damage levels, The problem I am having is once you Rank the ability to Level Two, It is requiring me to 'Target' a unit, instead of Just clicking in the direction like the original ability. And to add salt to the wound, It won't let me even select the target. Any ideas on where I messed up? I am -very- new to the Data Editor and Galaxy Editor.
I am working on a map and I am wanting to have random falling debris/factory/barracks/battle cruisers crashing like the ones that appear in the third to last map during the Melee Campaign. I found them in the doodads, placed them around the map randomly. But they only fall once, and that is right at map start. Do I change that from the doodad itself? Or is it trigger based? Just wanna get a general basis before I spend a few hours looking to fix it the wrong way.

Oooh, You know what I think it was. After going back, I only had 1 level for the search area. Gonna see if that was the problem.
