I don't think any petition is going to have any effect. If you want to create a real uproar, get the popular map-makers to delete their maps. You'll probably see uproars nonstop on starcraft2 custom game forum when they can't play their favorite maps.
But I doubt popular map-makers share the same opinions as you guys tho.
Icehot dance off is a map where two teams try to out dance each other. Every couple seconds, units are released into the dance floor. They are regular units that try to kill each other, however, each unit has a name attached to it. Players can type in names to make them dance. Or they can type in units from the opposing team to stun them.
Every unit will only dance for several seconds, the players must type in their names again to make them dance. Units will naturally try to kill each other, but dancing units cannot be targeted by other units. Stunned units can be targeted and killed.
When units dance, they earn points. There's a score bar at the top of the screen revealing how close each team is close to winning. You want to fill up that bar for your team to win the dance off.
Later on, units with 2 names and 3 names will appear. The ultralisk dancers have 3 names. Some names are more difficult to type than others, however ultralisk dancers will cause a couple nearby allies to dance as well. 2 and 3 names dancers give out more points.
Special abilities will appear every once a while. The first few special units are just fruits. Type in the name of the fruit earns a random point for your team. Other special abilities include 'freeze enemy team' or 'fireball attack'. Be the first to type in the special phrase to earn that ability for yourself. There's lots special abilities included in the map.
Yup, whiskee. No matter how much people complain, the regular player base is very happy with the popularity system. I disagree that blizzard say we should dumb them down. But the current system is made for a few maps to fill up fast. And that's what popularity system is good for. And regular players don't care for diversity, otherwise they would have just quit playing the same 5 maps that had been here since release.
In theory, one of the popular tug maps could get replaced, if another one that's better come along. But the current system forbid new maps from being made, so we won't see better maps being made.
Its probably a good idea to abandon the project. Yeah, blizzard is destroying the map-making community, but guess what. Nobody cares. :) I'm serious, unless you are a map-maker you aren't affected. Judging by the number of games being played in custom game lobby, the regular people are very happy with nexus wars and the other tug games that had been here since release (and probably was there during beta).
Map-makers aren't important to the custom games. You may not like it, but the custom game section only needs about 4-5 maps and its good to go. Changing the popularity system might actually harm custom game players. If people are siphoned from the current popular games, it would take longer and longer for them to fill up. So if they fix popularity system, we'll have a hundred maps to choose from with each taking a while to fill up. If they keep the current system, maps will fill up in seconds but they only have 5 maps to choose from.
The biggest effect of the popularity system would be, if those tug game map-makers delete their maps. Then we'll see an uproar! .. and maybe a change to the popularity system.
Yeah, someone already said it, you need campaign dependencies. Just search for shockwave under effects.
Also I do almost every custom abilities by modifiying existing ones. For example, I'll duplicate the infestor -infested terran abliity, switch the egg missile model to a fire model. Switch its impact effect to something else - shockwave effect. Now you have an ability that launches a fireball that arcs across the air and knocks back units when it lands!
Once you get better at editing existing abilities, then you can start making fresh from ones from scratch.
(ps, i actually have a map that has a fireball ability. It doesn't knockback unit, instead it drops a fire burning patch on the ground. If you want to look at how it works, you can load up the map called icehot dance off)
Actually, is it me or does your while loop makes no sense?
a) if your 2 for loops never find a match, your while loop will run forever!
b) if your 2 for loops do find a match, your while loop will only loop once.
So you do not need that while loop at all. And of course the for loops do not perserve the counter. There's no break. Assigning a boolean to true does not break the for loops. So it'll always count to the max.
I've seen lots maps rise up and disappear. Just because blizzard use the word popularity, doesn't actually mean its popular. Roundabout wars was super popular for a couple days and was well ahead of nexus wars for about 2-3 days. But when I joined the map, almost everyone is a first time player, and I can tell they didn't enjoy the map. Having a map reach front page for a couple days doesn't mean its popular.
I'm on the side of 'if your map doesn't rise back up, its really not that popular in the first place'.
The real problem with b.net2 is it doesn't allow unpopular maps to be played. In the old system, even unpopular maps can get played. But with b.net 2.0, unpopular maps have zero chance of being played. Only the top 20 maps or so can be played... that's what's broken.
It's funny, I went to bed after making 2 public games for my custom that
autofilled to test out balancing. Woke up and my map is now 2nd on EU
with like 1.5k games played in last hour, that's pretty crazy.
I know, samething here! During the day of the popularity resets, my map, roundabout war, actually reached front page! I remembered after the first reset, my map actually got a few dozen games going. I came back later and noticed my map disappeared again due to another reset. I was going to just .. forget the map and move on to my next map idea. But I decided to finish the last few triggers for the map anyways..
I played 2 games solo vs the AI, logged off to fix the map. Played a 3rd game where someone actually joined! So me and the other played a game where again, I found stuffs to fix. I looked and noticed it had like 9 games played! That was joyous for me, to have so many games played. ;) Anyways, I logged off to fix the map. When I came back, it had like 30ish games played! And this time when I started a game, people actually joined! Wow, full game!
Anyways, due to the popularity reset, the 'show new games' list only had 2 pages and my game was on the 2nd page easy to see. I was checking the list every now and then, I saw the games played for my map rise steadily. 92 games, 100+, etc. It was like on page 4 or 5 of the popularity list not even having the bar filled.
Few hours later when I came back, wow, it had full bar! it was climbing the chart all day long, and today it had over 17k games played!!! I have to say, I was elated to see my map climbed to first place. ;) I'm actually scared to update my map now, afraid I might screw up a upload. Actually I did screw up an upload for a few minutes when I left some testing units on the map for player 1. Luckily, I realized the mistake right away.
my map got totally lucky that it appeared during the reset. It was released the day before and no one was playing. I played like 15 games total to bump the map to no avail. Only like 2 other people played it or something.. Can't believe my map reached so high. :p
Have you tried converting player group option? There's one that converts a single player into a player group, and you need to use that for some of the stuffs.
Okay, finally put in the last finishing touch on this map. It started after I played Nexus War. The premise of the map is the same except I wanted to see what the game is like if there are no lanes. Just everyone able to build right next to each other and see what kind of chaos there would be!
This map is top vs bottom, and the setting is a cityscape. Lots obstacles in the way like houses and traffic lights. They serve to slow down the initial rush while players build up. The players can build anywhere including moving to the enemy side and put down buildings next to them!
Although this map was release a week or so ago, the last finishing touch is finally just done. Whew.. so just doing a little advertising for anyone interested in a map like this. Its on page 5 or so on the popularity list.
In the merc compound when you summon a merc unit, it drops down in a drop pod. But I want to spawn Jim Raynor instead of the War Pig, so I changed the spawning unit. But now, Jim Raynor won't come down in a drop pod. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks :)

Actually, its very easy to make. Launch your fireball, and on impact, use the hybridc shockwave persistence effect.

I dunno, but if your error message works, can't you just order your unit to unload then revert the tank onwership back to neutral?
