Unfortunately Virtual Dub doesn't want to show me the codec list for compressing even though I have the codecs so I'm not quite sure what is wrong with it. I've tried compressing them in the few formats given and the quality turns out terrible.
Hey everybody, Team Heroes and Empires is currently looking for a somewhat experienced data editor. We have the majority of triggers done and the terrain is coming along nicely.
If you are interested send me a PM or post something on our team page. Thanks :)
I will try and get some footage up of what we currently have once I can figure out how to compress my video files so they aren't 6GB+.
Another nice thing would be to have people who arnt hired able to buy into the next age.
->=next age >>=age after the next
The heroes and empires are staying completely separate except for the fact that the empire can hire the hero basically as a mercenary. It's basically two types of games merged into one. We have no plans on doing something different because something like this would more than likely create great imbalances and would not be fair if there weren't enough empires to support all the heroes.
The game is set up so a person can choose to be equally strong whether they are a hero or an empire. The balancing stage has not been set up yet but will follow along the lines of early game: Hero > Empire mid game Empire = Hero late game Empire > Hero Of course all of this can change depending on what the empire focuses on and what kind of skills the hero focuses on.
And what I mean by <=> doesn't mean a hero completely obliterates empires early game or an empire completely obliterates heroes late game. It's all a matter of balance.
It could have been worse by having to pay monthly for the game. Previous versions of Blizzard games were very client based, meaning all custom maps were hosted off of the creators PC. (Correct me if I'm wrong but) I believe SC2 is more server based and they host the custom maps. This means now Blizzard has to pay for many more SC2 servers and yet they still do not charge us monthly.
Having to pay small fees helps manage the servers and the money it costs to pay for customer service. It's better than having to go out and set up a whole new battle.net account along with another 60$.
All in all though I am surprised you got permabanned. Blizzard is usually good about warning people but even if you are furious you still need to watch what you say as they have the right to ban for pretty much anything.
I wonder if you guys will be adding the creep spawns or just make them come to empires,i liked it when it did both though it could get hard :\
Ideally what will happen is there will be designated creep spawning locations. At those locations if the creep stay there for a certain amount of time, say 3 minutes, they will move to attack the nearest empire.
You may want to use a different name. I haven't spoken to LordSquad/FinalLegacy in a while, so I'm not sure if they ever planned on doing it for Starcraft 2, but if the makers of the original decided to work on a new one, this might be problematic. Then again, they might be honored that people enjoyed their work enough to remake it.
With that said, I wish you the best of luck on the project, and hopefully far less bugs during development than what we went through on WC3! I think I had over sixty or seventy iterations of HaE in my maps folder during the testing phases.
I guess I should send them a message to make sure then. I figured they wouldn't be making another one since they scrapped their second WC3 version but it is a possibility that they may be making one for SC2.
As for the amount of bugs in it, I hope that the number will be greatly reduced due to the advancement of the map editor. So much more is possible now with this new editor and it will either create a whole new wave of bugs or hopefully eliminate most of them :)
My friend and I have just started the map, but have not got very far. I know without additional help this map would take a few months to make. Wondered on to here and saw this.
My questions are:
How far are you?
Would you need an extra hand on developing extra characters/map content?
I'm heavily dedicated, and want to produce a good looking map.
So far we have one working hero, some items for that hero, the UI partly done, a working civilian system and a few other things.
We have our coder (wOlfLisK), our terrain artist (Razherrt) and myself as the designer. I have put some thought into getting a co-designer since I will probably be very busy in the upcoming month.
Send me a PM with some way of contacting you, whether it be Xfire, Skype, Ventrilo, or Teampseak 2/3, and we will see if we can work something out.
Hey everyone, the creation of the Starcraft 2 version of Heroes and Empires is under way and is looking for some people to help get the map going.
The map is like a civilization map except it is incredibly in-depth. It is planned to be a 12 player map where each player can choose to either be a hero or an empire. The main objective is to be the last person or team standing. Heroes are able to be hired by the empire and if an empire hires a hero that hero gains experience and minerals for being hired but is obligated to protect that empire. You will be able to ally, make war, become neutral, or surrender to another player as an empire. Empires will progress through ages in which different upgrades are unlocked. A citizen system will be in place in order to receive income and a tax and food system will determine the happiness level of those citizens. If the happiness level gets too low random units will start to rebel in your empire.
Heroes will be able to gain levels, choose their own attributes, have spells, and buy items. Items will be able to be upgraded as the game progresses.
An outside computer force will be at play in order to spice up the game a bit and give heroes other methods of leveling. The computer player will promote alliances but people should choose their alliances wisely as much backstabbing can occur.
We would love to add our own 3D models and make this an awesome game.
Designer: Assassin230
Coder: wOlfLisK
Terrain Artist: Razherrt

What we are currently looking for is the following::
A 3D modeler
Data editor
Down the line we will need::
Testers to help balance the game and find bugs
(Based off the original WC3 map Heroes and Empires by Lord_Squad & FinalLegacy)
if someone does make this map, can you not make single tile roads? I hated how after an empire makes a large city it starts to lag like hell from the high # of roads.
If this project does get started one of the things that I want to work on that wasn't really worked on in WC3 is the lag reduction and random disconnects. I'm hoping with the advancements that the SC2 editor has it will allow these things to become possible. Also one of the major changes in the game that I would like to see happen is to take out the primary focus on the computer player (if you remember in the WC3 version the computer basically occupied a large portion in the bottom left of the map) and to make it more of an empire war game. With a large portion of the computer character gone I'm hoping it will free up some of the lag.
With that said, I hope to keep many of the same aspects and still have a computer character but the main objective would be to be something like the last empire standing.
Nothing is set in stone and it will definitely be a work in progress as long as a team can be put together :)
Back in WC3 there used to be a game called Heroes and Empires. You were able to choose between either to play a hero or an empire and the main objective of the game was to defeat the computer. If you chose a hero you would level up by killing the random creep (computer characters) on the map and was also able to be hired by an empire. If an empire hired you, you got bonus exp every so often and some money in order to spend on upgrades. In return you would help defend that empire.
If you chose empire your job was to build up an army and either attack the computer or possibly even other empires.
You started with everyone being mutual with no allies and you had to decide who to choose as allies and who you thought was a threat.
It was an incredibly in-depth game because if you chose empire you had to manage your taxes, food, happiness levels, etc. of your empire.
I would love to either see this game recreated in SC2, or try and work on it myself. The only problem is with it being so in-depth, a person with no map editing skills like myself would have a very difficult time doing it by myself. I would like to ask on here if there would be anybody out there who was interested in seeing a game like this created and if so to give me a PM.
I didn't want to put this in the looking for team section because I don't believe I have a strong enough foundation in order to be asking for an entire team to create this game yet. I would however like to see somebody possibly take charge of this and allow myself to be a part of the team as I learn and progress through the editor and eventually work my way up to become one of the head managers of this project.
If you managed to get through this small wall of text thank you, and again PM me if you may be interested and we can go into more detail on what would go into making this map. I didn't want to explain the whole thing because the wall of text would be much larger.

Bumping because we now need somebody who can work the data editor.
Send me a PM if you think you are qualified for the job :) Please be decently experienced as there is a lot that needs to be done.

Edit: Also if you would like to contribute ideas to the map post them on our map homepage http://www.sc2mapster.com/maps/heroes-and-empires/
and not on this thread. This thread is intended for the help we seek and not for ideas about the map.
