Proficient as these map developers may be, I get the impression they are reaching out to devs of published maps because the Arcade may be using those maps in some capacity, and it wouldn't exactly be possible to do that with unreleased projects. Not to say notorious developers of yet-unreleased projects should be excluded; that's just the impression I have of the situation.
You may have a point there. They are probably going to try to make the arcade the biggest success as quickly as they can. I frankly think its stupid to widthhold any of the new mod tools or map editor improvements. Think about it. Who are those selling to? Modders of course. What percentage of their sales is that? Almost nothing.
On top of that: yes the arcade will expose some buried maps. However most of that content is made by people who are no longer updating and largely gone. Maps that are not being updated don't get played for very long. And athough a lot of buried content will come to light, it could take several years for the makers to trickle back; if they some ever do.
It will take some time for a new wave of content to reach the players after the initial "come towards the light" wears off. Will take 6 months probably but content to replace that wave may take at least that long to come out. And if they want to start drawing both players and modders back they need to community to look as vibrant as possible.
I'm trying to get my hands on a copy of those Blizzard art tools. My group has been working steadily but its such a pain making models from scratch with the current tools (Ie ntoxicated's tools). After several series of bugs we don't even dare put bones of them or even try to animate them. Fortunatly we are busy with tanks, vehicals, and ships which we can get away with not animation for a while but the time will come when we will need to do that. Hopefully my group can get those art tools before we get to the infantry.
I and my team are in dire need of a 2d Artist skilled in either Photoshop or GIMP.
The role in the project involves texturing models and perhaps making icons as well. We've got some very high end content comming out already but we are sorely lacking in the area of 2d Art. To be blunt, although we certainly have talent, none of that applies to the 2d Art field.
The current team is as follows:
FockeWulf: Data editor, Trigger editor, and doing any job no one else will or can.
Ryan: 3d Artist.
Our modding experience is rather high, I started modding the day after the map editor first came out in Beta. Ryan has been making 3d models for mods going back to CnC. He is very good at his work.
To show that we mean bisuness and that the project is already well underway, here are some pictures:
You can also see the volume of models that need texturing. I am the one doing most of the texturing right now, and this has left me with a VERY high workload on this project. Also as I am no 2d artist (farthest thing from it in fact) I cannot do the models Ryan makes (nor my own for that matter) any justice by the textures I am capable of making.
I have a large and growing community for this map project. I have even found the old Clan Soviet from StarCraft 1. And now we have the solid and strong playerbase of Diplomunion.com and the support of BrokenAlliances.com. We will soon have our own webpage and we also have access to EAGLE, a 3rd party stat tracking system for StarCraft 2 that will enable us to keep leaderboards of anything we want to. We may or may not use it but support for this project is certainly not lacking.
If you are a 2d Artist of any level ranging from "knowing my way around" Photoshop or GIMP to semi professional or even professional please contact me via any of the following methods:
email: [email protected]
teamspeak 3: brokenalliances.com
skype: [email protected]

I've got a project that requires a lot of model work and I'm looking for people who have some proficiency in PhotoShop or Gimp to help with a whole slew of custom models.
Here is the project: Public World War 2 Dependency.
To show that this isn't just a random person who wants to start a project, let me give some pics of the large amount of models we have awaiting texturing:
I am doing my best to texture them but if you look at this pic you will see how badly I am doing:
I am mostly a data guy with some triggering in the mix :)
If anyone would be interested in some very good work not only for WW2 Diplo but the entire community plz let me know!

If you are out there, I really hope to hear from ya!
In working on my map projects I discovered an annoying issue reguarding AI's.
We did some tests and found the following:
We had 8 AI's and slots for 6 players and:
With 2 teams, 2 of the AI's wouldn't work.
With 3 teams, none of the AI's worked.
With 4 teams, all of the AI's worked.
No other tests were conducted.
This is obviously a Blizzard bug and it seems to be consistant across every map I've personally worked on.
So just a heads up for all of you having issues where triggers won't execute AI fuctions if you don't have the map set to 4 teams at least some of them will not work.
Think about DotA. I know you hate it with a passion but just think about it for a minute.
If you think it through, would DotA have happened at all on bnet 2.0?
I mean just look at it.
1. You can't do leagues. Things like clan DXD and the 3rd party DotA client would not be possible. There are no clans and DotA client would instantl result in a ban.
2. You can't do game modes. Good god every time the host did a game mode other than what was listed in the game name half of the players would leave almost every time.
3. Lobby delay bug. Face it, people liked playing DotA with their friends. With the lobby delay bug this in pratice becomes impossible. And makes league games even more futile.
4. And thats all assuming that DotA would actually have risen in the popularity system in the first place. Allstars had a lot of competitors but it won in the end because people liked it the best. It certainly wasn't the first. Now we have SOTIS and only SOTIS because nothing can get high enough to challenge it. And the SOTIS team would bed morons not to realize this. And blizzard is actually choosing to listen the them and almost only them? And they are going to lose money by listening to the SOTIS team? I don't know about you guys but I can certainly see whats comming crystal clear.

SC2 can only handle certain .dds compressions I've found.
Make sure its something like DXT3 ( I use for models) or DXT5 ( I use for icons).

Runecraft vs Nexus Wars....
No contest there and a glaring test case of the popularity system.

Frankly a leadership change is well beyond due.

Both had flaws. One actually worked dispite its flaws.
