lol, i was starting to think nobody actually needed this. Maybe everyone is just eyeballing any issues and trial and error on different monitors.
Personally, i'm not a fan of borders. I feel that the best method would be an invisible border that is made as part of your loading screen (like a large landscape or space scape). And then making sure that all your crucial content is within the bounds of a 4:3 screen.
Which the above is still good for, to make sure your loading screen keeps the same "feel" on all resolutions. The equation that i didn't really explain how to use, is actually the most useful; for projecting resolution cropping on all resolutions.
I've been thinking of doing some kinda squad formation trigger work since open beta... but this actually gave me some slight incentive to just do it. xD
Sorry about the poor resolution, i got a shitty monitor.
Fraps stopped working on me in the middle, didn't get to capture the part where the units die sequentially with the global HP dropping.
Formation is loosely done (primary focus is a cohesive squad that acts and takes damage as one unit)
Formation readily changes shape when collision or interruptions occur
Everything leader unit does, all other squad units copy (Attack, Move, Patrol, etc)
Squad Leader is any unit that you click on at any given time. Changing lead is dynamic and instant.
Joint HP pool works by combining the max hp of all the spawned units.
HP bars of each unit reflects the total HP pool of the whole squad
Each unit in squad shares the same HP pool, and damage is done to the squad as a single entity.
Random unit dies within squad when the squad takes an amount of damage equal the maxHP of a single marine.
Boss bar up top is only to show the HP clearer
Some known issues
Auto attack could probably screw this whole system up
Drag-box selection must be disabled, because it starts dropping units out of the squad
An interesting side effect of the implementation is that I can continue to add units onto the squad post-initial-spawning, by clicking on them (temporarily making them squad leader). So as long as they are of the same unit type of your squad.
Hope you guys like it. Pretty easy and quick to implement yourself. I'll upload map tomorrow after i do some organizing in it.
Some of the best custom icons that I've seen.
the last two upgraded versions of Cerebratal Armor are missing though? edit: oh n/m they just placeholders.
@Demonette:
lol, it looks a lot smoother than blizzard's version.
Nice work, now you gotta have a matching nitroboost_open ;] j/p
Because the reason i kept it so plain, is it needs to match the nitropacks icon thats already inside the game. If it is to be used as a toggle off version.
@Everyone
Anyone got previous work they wanna add? I'll post some new work too. Since nobody is making requests. These forums have been emptying out lately.
Only games i didn't play would be the ones prior to Warcraft 1.
And i wasn't tempted to touch WoW either, MMO's are just too time consuming AND it's pay2play.
@StatusQ3:
How about a book to properly teach you java first? These books generally go deeper into a specific subject like 3D/2D graphics, but there is a lot of knowledge that they'll assume you already know very well. Once you get your java basics down, you can easily create your own 2D game, or even simulated 3D, with just your creativity and basic knowledge.
There are already too many poorly coded Java programs in the world, it would be a shame to contribute to that. xD
If you really must get a book, I recommend getting a newer one, because java is continually being developed and some things may become obsolete due to newer and better features.

rofl, hey good catch! I completely agree with you on that. And no it's not a wrong conjecture, i'm pretty sure there should be more to that flap.
Funny thing is, I actually started doing that icon knowing I would have to redraw that specific portion. But i was working on too many things at once and it slipped my mind completely when i went back to working on this icon.
Thanks for pointing that out. Don't worry about the effort, other people may still find it useful.
Edit: Fixed and uploaded, keep in mind the flap appears shorter because the mechanism involves the flaps being pulled into the chassis while they close.

Nice work, Demonette. Glad you stepped in. I'm not sure i can handle this alone. D:
Since its a png, want me to convert to dds for ya?
@Everyone else
I kinda finished all of the icons so far, just haven't had time to upload. xD They're attached to this post, and will be added to the first post.
Sample in-game image included, with icons in no particular order.

For nitro boost off, I made one where the thruster flaps close as well as your original request. Good opportunity to simulate animation in a toggle icon.
I added something to the note for Requesters, thanks for reminding me. xD
Basically, include any graphics you prefer to use, or a fullname of the ingame texture. So people don't have to look for it. But if all you know is a basic name, then that's okay.
is it this one? And did you want fumes coming out of it instead? or just make it look like its completely turned off?

Are there other pictures i can use? or even a model i can use to take pictures with? Most of those are black and white, so the icons will come out black and white, unless you want me to try to color them. For now, i'll just do a direct conversion of those into blizzard style icons.

I'll give it a go. But i thought Warfield comes with wireframes/icons bundled with the model. I'll just do kerrigan for now, until you get back to me on that.
@Hookah604:
Yeah, it's a known problem, those settings seem to be overwritten at run-time or something. I think its one of those things Blizzard needs to fix.
