Ungroup the staff, attach the staff parts so that they could be as one model, assign material to it again and skin it to any bone in the wrist and the error is gone :)

Just for the record: that folder program files/autodesk/3dsmax2011 is your working version right?
1. I've searched a lot, maybe you could access it through the data editor. But if you won't find anything inside editor you can get 3dsmax 2009-2012 and use the M3 Import/export scripts. You can import/export camera.

Try to decompose the models into xml's and back to m3 and then import them to Blender. It might be due to added structures which can't be found.
EDIT: on second thought... that might not work too. Could you attach one m3 file? Maybe I can help with it.

Apply starcraft II material onto the mesh and turn the mesh into EDITABLE MESH. Try to keep the scale somewhere around a sphere of a radius 5cm.

Ok so could you try to do the same thing but not on max design 2012? Mabye 3dsmax 2011, or 3dsmax2012 but not the Design.
