Don't think you can get around this. Use "unit" instead of "player" if you can.

How can an ability have 2 cooldowns?
You can use the charge field to have a separate cooldown for your abilities. Say if you wanted Spell X to have a 300 second cooldown, but not be usable within 60 seconds of Spell Y, you could use the charge field to link Spell X and Spell Y's 60 second charge cooldown while maintaining the 300 second independent cooldown. It's pretty nice, though kinda niche.
I'm confused, why would you need to know anything about warcraft universe to make a warcrafty map? If anything, not knowing a thing about WC gives you an edge here.
If nostaliga factor is what you're aiming for, then yeah, some warcraft knowledge, especially vanilla WoW/wc3 knowledge, will go a long way because a lot of people have played or grown up with those games.
Honestly I think if someone managed to pull off a map that appealed to the warcraft fanbase, then the arcade would just explode since the fanbase is much bigger than that of starcraft.
The downside for me is I've never touched Warcraft in my life. I guess I'll have to start reading up on the history and lore. The Warcraft universe isn't too big, right?
There's a free trial for WoW that will let you take any character up to level 20. You'll get to look around and see the sights at your own pace.

Patch notes as if this were an update from the wc3 version (specifically, Lition's). Anything that isn't listed here has been carefully preserved. Everything from the tiny damage over time effect from the Sword of Poison, to the Magic Shrine and associated abilities. All icons and such are also preserved. Nothing is set in stone and the entire map is built on a mod file to ensure that anything can be easily swapped around, replaced or removed.
CHANGES FROM WC3 VERSION (LITION)
ATTRIBUTE CHANGES
- Items and tomes now grant stats directly (eg, 1 strength tome gives +life, +life regen and +damage).
- All tomes now grant bonus weapon damage. (Heroes do not have a primary attribute anymore).
- Tome of Intellect now increases ability damage by 5% per point instead of providing energy regen.
- Rings that grant Intellect now instead increase weapon damage and ability damage instead.
- Armor from items has been toned down a lot. End-game heroes should now be killable.
ITEM CHANGES
- Sword of Poison renamed to Assassin's Blade.
- Sword of Lightning renamed to Stormherald.
- Sword of Fire renamed to Firebrand.
- Spear of Longinus renamed to Ice Barbed Spear.
- Enchanted Shield renamed to Ironplate Buckler.
- Shield of Honor renamed to Bloodforged Shield.
- Shield of Lightning renamed to Energetic Barrier.
- Rings rebalanced for new attribute system.
- Added a 3rd tier of rings.
- Ring of Protection +60 removed.
- Spear of Longinus (Ice Barbed Spear) now prodives less armor, but also costs less.
- That potion who's name will probably get my map removed from bnet renamed to Swiftness Potion.
- Vampiric Potion now provides +25% weapon speed instead of +20 weapon damage.
- Tome shop removed. Tomes can be purchased directly from your hero instead. Tome chat commands still work.
- All potions now stack to 99.
- Secret shop removed. Did this have a point? Let me know and I'll add what I need to.
CREEP CHANGES
- None. All creeps are strictly identical in terms of cost, weapon, speed, abilities and stats.
OTHER
- Gold cap removed. You may now have up to several billion gold at once. Please don't!
- There is a weapon speed cap of +400%. This was a hidden part of WC3 too but it deserves a mention.
Oh yeah. This is one of the kinks that I need to iron out. Kiting is not just easier in sc2, but pretty much broken! Having no punishment for ranged heroes perpetually stutter-stepping feels really bad compared to the choice-driven style of WC3 kiting. I have some work to do to make sure it's punishing, yet still fluid.
No it isn't. The content is a result of a more difficult editor combined with the fact that the majority of wc3 genres now exist as massive f2p entities.
I agree, the WC3 arcade system is terrible. Really, I don't understand the fandom that surrounds it. I still play WC3 a lot and what makes their arcade "better" is the content, not the system.
Removing the "Pending" thing would be a huge step forward. This thing has no right to exist. No other game will hang up the lobby just to wait for one guy's friend, who may just be completely AFK anyway.

They are. In fact, an ability with a max charge of 1 with the "hide count" flag checked is indistinguishable from a standard cooldown. Try it!

"Attribute Player Value" condition is probably what you're looking for.

I love his accent and he does a great job of explaining WarCraft lore.
Though really, I think you'll be pretty safe without ever having to know a single bit of WarCraft lore, to be honest!

Yes. Yes I like this. It's about time that the whole "wc3 custom maps were better" thing was changed!

Sooooon! All the hard work is done. Just sorting stuff out right now, and then balancing it all.

Nearing completion of the update. Everything is brought over from the wc3 version, from creeps and their abilities, to the items and mechanics.

You can even make multiple mods that share the same source mod! Modception.
Seriously mods are great. They don't get talked about often, but they're probably the most powerful addition to the sc2 editor over the wc3 one.

Can confirm. Tried exactly that and the attack speed came out at 16 attacks per game second no matter what I tried.
But yeah, marking this as resolved. Thanks a lot!

I think I know why this one is the lesser known one. It's in the movement tab of the behavior UI... Still, thanks for bringing this to light!
TIL about the whole 0.0625 minimum attack speed. Was agility really 1% per point? I thought it was 2%. Will check now.
Edit: Yeah it's 2% according to the wc3 site. http://classic.battle.net/war3/basics/heroes.shtml Don't know if that's changed since it was written though.
