That might work if I was the original author of the map, but renaming through map info and file name gets around it anyways. A newer version of the map published by someone else is already on the en-us servers, so it's not really stopping others from uploading it either. I hope it's a bug, but it's going to be tough getting an answer about it on bnet, I have two post one in Custom and one in General, the one in general got buried back to page 5 already :\ They answered the achievement disabled thread 3 times yesterday, talk about not spreading the posting love around...
A word of warning to all publishing maps right now with inappropriate content. I've posted this in the bnet custom and general forums as I am looking for an answer and I'm sure you all will too....
Ok Blizzard I really need to get an answer to this. The players also need to know/warned of this issue on whether or not it's a bug or working as intended, and since the blues roam the General section mostly here it is....
This a warning for anyone that is publishing other people's maps. I've had two maps supposedly "removed", that I had published for a map creator, yes I had their permission and even had their help localizing the map for North America, another stupid feature but that's a story for another time.
Anyways I've had the same map different versions removed, the first time came with no warning email but the author figured what the problem might have been and updated it, the second time it did detail what was wrong with the map and I've relayed it to the author and a fix was made again.
Unfortunately it seems now that I am only able to publish up to 3 other maps on my account, because you see when Blizzard removed the map from Battle.net, they did not remove it from my 5 map or 20meg limit. I see the map usage but no actual maps so I can't even remove it myself to clear my publishing usage.
I hope this was not intentional and a huge bug, I already disagree with the 5 maps AND 20 meg limitation, why not one or the other? You already allow 5 maps that total up to 20 megs, why not allow like 20 maps with the same 20 megs limit?
I understand now that the map had problems because of an inappropriate swear words used, something I should have scanned for beforehand but it just didn't click at the time. I accept the punishment of having it removed and appreciate the warning detailing what was wrong so that it can be fixed. But to also have my map limit reduced (permanently?) is a little bit extreme.
This all wouldn't have been a problem if Blizzard did a better job with respect to the publishing, if you want the publishers to keep their work, then give them the freedom to publish it anywhere in any localization. I hope this is going to be fixed in the future. I've now been punished for helping someone else with their map publishing, instead of the original author. Not that I'm blaming them for it, I accept the punishment, just not losing 2 publishing slots, I would have taken a week suspension instead.
So, is losing map publishing slots when Blizzard removes a map an intentional feature or a bug?
