Hey everyone, I thought I'd just mention this for people releasing and publishing their maps. It's not really a tutorial hence why I'm not making a video; but it's something I do in all of my released maps that I think will help you with popularity.
Ever been in a party and browsing the popularity list and 3/4 of them are grayed out? The reason is that your party is bigger than the max team size of the map's lobby. Instantly this means your party will not be able to join... eg. a 2v2 map with a 2v2 lobby setup can only be joined by single people or parties of 2.
So, what I have done with all of my maps and with my latest popular map, is make the lobby as all one team. 9 players? ALL one team. Then, in-game you show a dialog to choose team or w/e.
This is not a lobby tutorial but if you already know how to work a lobby, below is an explanation of how to set it up...
In terms of actual game variant setup, if you open game variants and go to your default one you have there, make sure (Game) Teams attribute is set to custom teams and is locked. Then scroll down to (Player) Team [Custom Teams] and make it look like this:
Player Value Locked
(1) Player 1 Team 1 [1] Locked
(2) Player 2 Team 1 [1] Locked
(3) Player 3 Team 1 [1] Locked
.
.
And so on, all the same...
Now your lobby will appear as one nicely sized list that larger parties can join. In-game though, you will have to present a dialog with buttons to 'choose team' and maybe do it on a first come first serve basis; and, when a team hits a certain number (e.g. active-players/2), disable the button so people have to choose the other. Add them to global player group variables to keep track and make them allied or enemies etc...
Well, just thought I'd mention this because I think a lot of friends/groups will choose any map that can handle their party size.
That's a cool tip, I've never really noticed this problem. I just assumed bnet 2.0 was smart enough to move party members to the opposing teams to continue filling the lobby.
It makes sense... if you knowingly select a 3 v 3 game with a party of 6, the only logical meaning is that you wanted to fill the whole game with your party. The alternate possibility would be the person was actually trying to fit 6 people on a 3 player team.................................
I prefer team assignment inside the game as well, since it actually gives people a chance to choose.

I was wondering why all those games were greyed out. Thanks! And I shall keep this in mind for my future projects as well.
@onisagi:
Yeah sorry as it stands right now, Bnet will not split your party up, it'll just gray out the game :(
Damn I should have known looks like I have to go do a little reworking.
