This week is the 100th episode of the WTE, which means I wanted to do something slightly special and look back on all we have done. With this week's subject being "Far ahead the road has gone", the idea is that you guys pick any assignment from any previous WTE and follow it. Basically recreate what you want. Don't mention what WTE you've picked so others can guess! All previous WTE's can be found in the global WTE thread linked down below.
Nice atmosphere! It could perhaps use a little bit more definition to make things stand out more, but else that'd be a wonderful melee map border as is.
I'm having a really hard time guessing what WTE that is. Is is #30, Two-tone?
It was actually inspired by Telthalion's entry for #99, but I got carried away with the rest of the map and forgot to screenshot the part with the giant vents.
It doesn't really work with city of fire (maybe it does, since there's pollution from burning stuff), but I plan to add lava later on to different parts of the map.
Have we ever had a "randomly generated terrain" WTE? If not, would you mind to throw it once? I met some ppl in chat who have some cool terrain generating algorithms. I understand, it's not about terraining in common sence, but it's still about terrains. And it could show how powerful the idea of terrain generating is, it's not just randomly put trees everywhere, but it can realy compete with "painted manually by humans" terrains.
We had one where you had a random chance of getting some terrain samples, you then had to make stuff within those limitations. So that fits your questions pretty well.
I have no words. You just created something... eh... FREAKING AWESOME. I've nothing to say. You totally got it. NICE JOB!
Well, looking more carefully, you could have add 3 things.
1: Within your camera setting, add some field of depth. If you go underwater, you will never see very far that well. There is always a little effect.
2: Adding some kind of wave effect. I remember a WTE with underwater light waves (screenshot example at bottom). You can also add some Crater that have the fire and the kind of moving screen, deformation effect cause of very hot, (I don't know how to say) in very big scale, maybe 500% and moves it under the ground so only the hot effect will pass creating underwater waves.
3: Adding some bubbles. In every movies of underwater city and such, there are always bubbles coming out of nowhere. You could probably do that with colored Baloons... looking at it more closely again... it seems like you have some sort of transparent balls. I wonder what doodads you used for them... and i guess forget the baloons lol.
Could you upload the map? I just want to take a more closer look than only picture cause, really, this is awesome.
Ok so I can't beat Telthalion's underwater WTE... It's just way too good. So I decided to go for a more funny one... (and just though that it had to be related to another one... well, lets just say it's the beginning of a new era ;)
So, who want a piece of cake to celebrate the awesome work of everyone and Mozared? :D
I figured it's deep enough that the caustics won't be visible, so I left those out intentionally. And I'm not a big fan of camera blur effects, so I usually don't use those for anything.
For my bubbles I have a giant biodome hidden under the ground that shoots bubbles everywhere. Can't see it very well in the screenshots, but it's really noticeable in motion.
Um, I get an error at loading saying: Dependency data could not be loaded. Dependency file could not be found (Mods\Sirocco_Tileset.SC2Mod). Countinue anyway? Yes, No.
If you do yes you get a map filled of nothing, only black and you get a massive number of not found doodads at loading.
So, I was browsing through my old WTE's (one in particular ;););) ) and decided to try and remake a centrepiece of one of them. Try and guess which one it is!
Weekly Terraining Exercise #100
For the 100th time: hey hey folks!

Good luck, and have a drink on me!

Gonna make something epic for this one :D

Also, might that be the "City of Fire" one?

It should be pretty easy to figure out which one I picked. :) (Though, really, it fits neatly into at least 3 of the previous topics.)
EDIT: Also, a few screenshots of my process, for those who are interested: http://imgur.com/a/gh86d#0
EDIT 2: Map now attached. Requires my custom tileset found here: http://www.sc2mapster.com/assets/sirocco-tileset/

Nice dome. Even I cannot guess what model you used to make it.

The domes are made of a bunch of Y-scaled Temple Gates rotated around a central point.

You need my Sirocco tileset in your SC2InstallDirectory/Mods/ folder.

It could have been harder... but I think I got lucky and found it rapidly. It's from the WTE 29: Military Space, and you try to rebuild the center of the pictures in your post: http://www.sc2mapster.com/forums/development/terrain/20823-weekly-terraining-exercise-29-military-space-compound/?page=2#p40
(No I didn't cheat... I just passed through almost all of the WTEs before to write in my video description of the WTE, who did what)
