Is there a way to get the [Decal] (or [Space Platform Ground Decals]) doodads to show up on top of roads? I was looking to make some turning lanes through part of a city I've been working on - but they seem to be hidden under the roads even when their height is raised. I've included two screenshots, the first from the editor, the second is in-game.
This is because they automatically attach themselves to the floor, similar to the Terran/Protoss Tarmac doodads. I don't think there's an easy fix, but it should be doable with some data-editing.
i'm not a professional terrainer, but maybe you could raise the height from the decals a tiny bit? as far as i know you can double click a doodad and there select rotation scale variation and that sort of stuff, height amongst them. It could very well be you tried this already though ^^
Has anyone found a solution for this. I've run into the same issues and either raising the terran or the decal above the height of the road still does nothing.
It's still not possible through normal means. Raising the doodad doesn't work because decals automatically attach themselves to the terrain they're situated on - try placing a Terran Tarmac on a cliff and you'll notice what I mean.
Like I said earlier though, it is definitely possible with data editing. It wouldn't surprise me if you could simply create a new doodad and give it the decal model so it should be raisable without any problems.
Probably. Data editing allows you to do virtually any thing with models. You might run into a problem if decal models themselves are hardcoded to always stick to the floor (something I don't know for sure), but I do not think this is the case.
Edit: Do not mind the picture, it's for FAQ purposes.

Could you make a custom unit. change the art model to the specific decal. make it so it doesn't collide with any objects then place them on the map?
