In this tutorial today we will be adding an ability (BLINK) to a Colossus. Please ignore the mini colossus as it is not important, he's just cute.
Using my method you will be able to use this on any unit and with most abilities. For example you don't have to use just blink, for example you could put an auto turret as the ability and summon them instead of using blink, or you could even have both or many more!
Step 1: Place a Colossus on the Map. Keep in mind that you can use any unit you wish. You could even use a Command Center which is a building and blink it places which is really cool.
Step 2: Open your Data Editor and find the Colossus or whatever unit you wish to use.
Step 3: Add the Ability Stalker - Blink
This time lets do the Stalker - Blink, and then maybe you can try it on your own and pick your own ability out. If your having trouble doing it also just come and post what your trying to do.
Step 4: Add to the Command Card the Blink Icon and set it as an Ability Command, and the rest should happen. Click OK.
Step 5: *Important* Be on the Abilities Tab *Important*
Type Blink into the search box and click it. Scroll down to Blink Requirements and double click Requirement +, right click the requirement research and clear/delete it.
Step 6: Scroll up, we are still in the Stalker Abilities, and under Effects click Stalker - Blink (Teleport) and change Target - Placement Range and Target - Range both to 25 which will give your blink ability massive range which would be sweet to have.
OK so that's the tutorial, and it's pretty sweet. I'd be scared to see 10 of these guys coming at me and then end up being like RIGHT THERE a split second later!
Don't be scared to use whatever unit you want weather if be a critter, a building, heros, or just a normal unit like we used above. The Galaxy Editor can basically accomplish anything your thinking so don't be afraid to just click buttons either, because that's how I learn a lot of the time ha.
As always I hope you enjoyed and if you have any suggestions or questions or requests send me a PM or leave a message.
EDIT:

Thanks for the reply and advice, I will try to tell them how this can be used generically. They defiantly need to realize that this editor is unbelievably flexible.
Good tutorial, perhaps this will help some beginner questions, but i think you should rename it to something more regarding abilities and explain how this can be used as a generic tutorial and not just for blink. If an absolute beginner doesn't grasp that many things are interchangeable he/she is definitely going to miss out on much flexibility found in the editor.
Hey programmer, thanks a lot. If your talking about the data editor, yes it's very pretty lol. If your talking about the in game settings thats on low hehe. My screen flashes black sometimes when I put the settings on ultra. Macs are weak..!!
is putting the unit on the map to do a test right afterwards cause after reading your tutorial i just did it all through the data manager without putting the unit on teh map
I'm sorry, I'm trying to understand what your saying but tell me if I'm wrong.
Your saying that you put the unit on the map after you did all the work in the data editor. This should be fine, but you need to make sure you select the correct unit that you've modified. For example if you duplicate a zealot and both of the icons are right next to each-other and you click the original and not duplicated and modified one when you go to test your going to be surprised to see the cool ability you added isn't there! Have you done a test yet yourself to see if it works?
Hope I helped, if your having any more problems please ask.
Hello Galactica12, I have taken a screenshot of what I have done to make my stalker blink crazy distances. Also note that you can only blink within your vision. Look at all parts of the screenshot, it's fairly one of the most simple things we can do.

I apologize for the link, the image was like "cut off" for some reason and didn't resize to fit the forum. I have difficulty using this forum, but click on the screenshot link and you'll be able to see what my data editor looks like.
Also if you liked this tutorial, fell free to check out my others and I have a really cool one coming soon. I'm trying to find a small part in an ability/behavior, I don't know which, but all I got to do is delete it lol but I just can't find it!! Ahh. Well here you go:
Well, i have the same fields, i don't know why its not working..... i'll attach a screen of what mine looks like. (sorry bout using paint, i didn't know how else to attach....
Oh, and i have sight, put some units around so i could see.
OK, I honestly don't know why it wouldn't work also. If you'd like me to upload my map that I use to make my tutorials on you can look at it and compare it to yours.
Those two pictures are my examples. I started 1 colossus behind the mountain and blinked him to the top of the mountain on the other side of the map and he ended up next to that other colossus.
If you'd be interested in downloading my version of the map just leave a reply and I'll probably post something tomorrow as I'll have to go to be soon. Also try doing the tutorial over again on a new map. Test if.
Alright, i'll try redoing the tutorial. I knew how to add abilities, yet, i wanted to figure out how to change the range when i read your tutorial, so i'll try redoing it from scratch, and if that dosen't work i'd gladly love to see your map. :D
Edit: After redoing, i definitely have longer range than before, but it's only about twice as far as the stalkers.
Edit(2): I just kinda went "screw this" and set the range and target to 500. Then i could blink anywhere. xD i think the distance i was seeing was...different than what i was thinking. So i appreciate the time, and am looking forward to diving into your other tutorials.

Exciting. I'm glad the redo turned out well. New tut coming soon.
Alright. I did everything you said, but when I went into the game to test it out, the blink icon to use blink, didn't appear.
It would appear in editor, but in game it would not be there.
Are you placing it under another icon? Make sure you have it in its own square. If you put it under another icon which you may be doing, please give me a screenshot if you can and test again.

I did everything from the tutorial, but it still doesn't show up on any unit I've tried it on.
Did you put the ability in your command card?
@Galactica12: Go
Yes, but nothing happened.

I do have it in it's own square. I don't think I will be able to do a screenshot, but I'll try doing everything again.
