So I have begun working with this project again. We talked a little bit about it in irc.
So as you might guess this project is thinly based on Grand Teft Auto. There wont be any automobiles tough. Main objective is to cause massive amount of havoc and just have fun playing.
I still havent gotten too many ideas to implement to this map, so if you have any pls share them.
The gameplay so far consists of civilians who wander around the town and panic if someone dies near them. Police will chace you if you get high enough criminal level. Higher criminal level means police will put more resources in order to stop you!
Im also planning on adding several different weapons and skills, but I think there should still be something else to do than mindlesly kill units...
Apart from that, make sure there is enough explosions. Explosions = Fun = People will like it.
Maybe add sort of quests/achievements? That'll make it less "Mindless"

Just improved graphics/terrain and stuff a bit. Im still wondering if I could make this project work. I guess ill try some more ideas and see if it becomes more fun.
I also implemented waypoints system (cant remember who made it), but now the civilians movement should be even better/randomized. Credits will be given if I someday publish this map.
yea thats a good idea, but its extremely hard to make a driving system since you really cants use WASD or get mouse point since the lagg issues. However I accept your challenge cause I want to try if I could actually make something like a fun driving system.
Wow weird how much stuff im doing with mapping again.
So the driving system is now done. Took a few hours and I think it turned out quite great. I could even make a driving game based on it (which I might do if this project fails).

And you can also see the flaws pretty well on the video. Its not 100% smooth and walls can cause a bit of a problem, which I might be able to fix. Anyways im still happy about my results.

If someone knows how to make helion permanently use walk animation pls let me know. I use function to move the hellion around and it seems to reset the walk animation while I do so.
Throw in some quest where you work for mercenaries, possibly warpigs, and you're good to go. Also explosions, if you touch something it should explode :D
Cool, looks like a blast! I can't believe someone actually listened to me LOL! Maybe you could do a trigger like, event: any unit enters within range of hellion > condition: helliondriven=true > action: kill triggering unit. Anyways, I thought they said they were gonna fix WASD lag... what happened to that?
Cool, I like that you put different vehicles in there with different stats, since GTA had such a large variety of vehicles. Seems like SC2 is a great engine for racing imo, although I wish bnet would support cursor tracking or WASD.
Now the map is already playable, but it still needs more stuff. Im not too excited about this project yet since Im a bit dissapointed how only like 50% of players get how the steering works....maybe I should add tutorial or something? But I guess people will learn it when they drive a couple of tracks.
Next step is to add more stuff. Should I add tutorials? weapons? how should the weapons work?
I really cant tell what would be best to add. If I added weapons they could be something that would slow you down or maybe even kill you? I really dont know.
I will probly force people to play this on next map night :D....maytbe...
Map voting readyyy. 2 maps currently. Gona make atleast 3 for beta (mapnight, probly). I think i should be able to get total of 6 tracks on 256*256 map.
Im also wondering if I should try wasd movement. I might try it if people dont like it in beta tests (many people would seem to prefer wasd over mouse steering).
So got this weird idea from somewhere to make "custom cars" with attachments. After painful lesson from data editor I was able to make couple of attachements and you can see them in the picture.
What do you think. Does it look good enough? Im not totally sure if its worth the trouble, since I cannot make the attachments go 100% like I want them to go...well im somewhat happy with the results, It could add a nice touch to the map after all...
Also, regarding the items: Maybe you could get some ideas from games like mario kart and stuff? Items wouldnt really kill you but rather slow, spin, annoy you. Depends on if you wanna go the funracer direction or rather keep it serious.

How about vehicles that you can steal and run people over with? That would be endless amounts of fun :D

Its a good idea since I can later return to GTS with improved driving system.
hopefully I can treat you this delicious piece of cake on next map night :) (grhm...ill make 12 player support in order to create total chaos)

if you want to make it funny have a two people in each vehicle, one driving the other on the turret
and make the turret person have to load ammo before he can shoot
just hope you dont need to go to the toilet
I like the Star Drivers much better than GTS. Reminds me of Super Off Road!

Now there is like 8 attachment totals (4 tank attachments and 4 engines, which can be combines as you want to combine them).
I think thats enough attachments for now. Its kinda anoying to make them, alltough It becomes more awesome if you add more attachments...sux.
Also diamondback has same attachments but I was too lazy to take pictures of it.
