I love desert terrains, they always radiate such a good mood. Yours could do with some elevation to make actual dunes, but I'd say you've got some pretty good basics there.
Not to diss your work, but your dunes are rather high. What you did is make the area weirdly semi-mountainous. I'd really recommend you to check out the video Lennywing linked and do pretty much exactly what the guy in it does. That's how you make dunes. What you did worked well for the mountainous area, but not so much for the area that used to be completely flat.
I definitely like the addition of the wind you added, though.
Yeah, I was thinking that too. It's difficult to keep a consistent dune height with that being such an expansive area of the map, but I'll see if I can make it appear less mountainous.
i think an Earthbound game would be sweet, but it doesn't nessessarily need the combat from the original game to do that, even if it was an action RPG it'd still PK-ROCK!
but the problem is the number of characters doesn't match the number of players.... how many does SC2 have? (i started my beta after the close so i dunno lol)
lets seeee......
Player 1 : Ness
Player 2 : Paula
Player 3 : Jeff
Player 4 : Poo
Player 5 : King ?
Player 6 : Bubble Monkey?
Player 7 : Picky ?
Player 8 : Buzz Buzz ?
figure out the rest some other time if there is more space lol
but anyways onto the map.... maybe the top left area could be turned into the underground portion? Mole No.3's hole? and make the pit actually lead there, also the oasis shouldn't be a cliff, just sink the land and put a bit of grass there... oh and an interior for both the Drug Store and the Tavern would also be cool, even if this map isn't used for earthbound, it'd make a hellova "Legion" (in the movie they are stuck in a tavern) or some kind of survivor game
@shanedon - Currently I'm only planning on terraining a few Sc2 versions of Earthbound levels, but the idea of an Earthbound game intrigues me. I'm not ruling it out. Anyone is welcome to use my terrain if they want to take a crack at it themselves.
@ZeroExodus - If you had an Earthbound game with that many players you probably wouldn't want them all on the same side. Maybe the 4 main heroes comprise one team and major enemies such as Master Belch, Pokey, Starman, Carbon Dog/Diamond Dog comprise the other (if you go a competitive multiplayer route). Also, I thought about terraining the corner of my Dusty Dunes map for use as an underground area, like you suggested, but it's just too big to replicate in that map on a remotely accurate scale. Take a look at how massive the Gold Mine is here.
Any Earthbound fans out there? I recently terrained a version of the Dusty Dunes Desert from the old SNES game. Here's the original...
And here's mine...
If anyone wants to download and do something crazy cool with the terrain, you can get it here. I'm working on Fourside presently!
Dusty Dunes sound like a scenario from Rollercoster Tycoon. ^

This is pretty cool :)
As Mozared said this is a pretty good basis.
Do something like this -> (go to ~ 3:25)

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll try adding some thicker dune-like elevation to the flat areas and post the pictures later.

A Roller Coaster Tycoon map sounds like an epic idea.
K, it has been dune-a-fied.
@Kyajin: Go
I'm officially in love with this idea.
I'd make it myself but I've got my other map to worry about, lol.
Seriously though, somebody's gotta make this happen.
Man this is great. Loved Earthbound and your re-creation of dusty dunes is top notch. Can't wait for fourside

From what little I see here, your map looks pretty good.
Is this going to be a remake of just the terrain from earthbound? Or a full remake? Either or its a great start!
earthbound!! your the man someone take on this project

I'm about 60% done with the Fourside terrain btw.
EDIT: Alright, updated the dune area.
Even if someone did remade a 2d version of Earthbound combat, all they'd have to do is only work with UI and pictures.
