Wait, people are playing it? When I made it another one was really popular so I sorta dropped the project... and I deleted my HotS beta yesterday (needed HD space for WoL patch...) so I can't actually continue work on it now :( Had some really neat ideas...
I'm totally going to have a Scourge to those in my team. Also, I loved talking to those guys who block your path. Especially the guy the the Ocarina of Time, that guy even buys a pikachu mask from you!
Muahahahahahahahahahahaha............beeeeeetaaaaaa...... Yea make some of the guys be useful, even dash people's hopes by having them battle you and then have them STILL not let you through!!!
On a side note, here's a minor side quest meant to be early in ur quest:
A bug catcher and his dad need ur help catching bug types and you said you will help-catch three bug types before they do to win. Your reward is for them to help fill up your starmondex by battling you with a plaguer and an overstank(this would be the first time you see these two) and three rare candies that can only use on your new bug types.
Btw maity ur mono battle map that I talked about earlier is the most played arcade map in the whole beta as of now!!! Congrats congrats congrats!!!

Wow, the new trigger editor runs fantastic on my computer.... With the update finished, I can get a lot of stuff done a lot faster ^.^ So I come bearing some nice updates! I'll list em off:
First, the Teleporter System. Unlike in pokemon, our zones are filled with randomly generated trainers and encounters each time you play. This is great for replay value, but it also means that having to trek through an area you've already explored is frustrating, because you have to fight through a new set of trainers each game. We're going to add the option of using fly, but we don't want to completely wreck the game for somebody who doesn't have (or doesn't want to use) fly. Luckily for you, teleporter systems have been installed in most major StarCenters and towns. Once you visit one and turn it on for the first time, it's unlocked forever. Visiting a teleporter machine will allow you to warp to any other previously unlocked teleporter for a small fee. That said, fly is still a better alternative if you manage to get it. In order to use teleporter, you actually have to walk to the nearest one and then you can warp. With fly, you will be able to warp to any unlocked town from anywhere, not just a from teleporters. It's like having to use public transportation verses having your own car. ^.^ We think this creates a nice system for fast travel, because while fly is certainly the superior alternative, you can still get around relatively quickly using teleporter machines.
Second, a visual update in form of the Follower System. Whichever starmon is in your first slot will appear alongside your character in the world, and follow you around (and other players can see this too, it's not instanced like some quest NPCs). It's not anything ground breaking, but we think it's a fun little touch. And of course, if people are annoyed by it, we'll add an option to force the poor little guy back into it's capture core.
We also realized that we'll need to resize some of the starmon...
@zeldarules28: Go Looking at that screenshot I remembered HoTS has some real "tall grass", but you guys said you didn't want to force players to have HoTS.
With all the new assets I wonder how long you can keep that point of view ;-)
EDIT: Here is a test for the center PC. I took one of the Castanar's monitors and removed the small side screens. Also it is easy to modify the texture that is applied to the screen so it can really look like you're using a Starmon computer.

Like TheAlmaity said, it looks awesome :D I know I'm just repeating what he said, but I really wanted to say something ^.^
SoulFilcher's models are looking good :) Ignore the sensor tower poking out in the back, that's our temporary model for the teleporter. The PC box isn't totally finished (pokedex stat bars will be added later) but it looked so awesome I had to take a picture :P
Today I put in a feature we've wanted to get done for a while now, which we're calling the mentor. Basically, you've got this old mentor who gives advice to young trainers. The point of the mentor is to give you some direction in the game, but only if you want it. You can ask him basic questions (where can I find water starmon, how do I save, how do teleporters work, etc....), but you can also ask him for things to do. He's very well connected and can point you in the right direction. The mentor will find a quest somewhere in the world that's appropriate for your level and tell you about it. This is intended to give some direction to players who don't like the "Do whatever you want" approach taken by some open-world games, but still allowing experienced players to go wherever they want and do whichever quests they want.
We weren't happy with out current plans for zone-progression, so we decided we'd open up more zones at once, opening each exit of Arena City so that you could go in any direction ('cept for north, cause the actual arena blocks that one), but then there'd be the issue that we can't use a too linear quest line to guide you through each (Since you're supposed to have the choice of where to go, so that you can fill in your starmon team more easily), so I thought we should just have a quest for each direction, all of them increasing in difficulty as you complete the others so that they are always level-appropriate. Problem was, how do we give the player those quests, and how do we allow him to choose? Perfect solution: Have an old dude giving advice, allow the player to ask him where he can find starmon of type X, and the old dude would point him into one of the quests for the new zones appropriate to the type the player asked about. And then we got the idea of just expanding that guy from a quest giver to being a sort of guide/mentor for players who need directions/help.
Does the mentor have a friend that runs a daycare? Half the point of he daycare was for breeding (you guys "took that out") but the other half still might make sense (grow in level, for a fee, without fighting.)
That makes perfect sense, but I'm wondering where you got the idea. It sounds like something that's already been done in various games but I've never seen this exact incarnation which, imo, is a fucking gem in the field of game design.
Nowhere directly. Just came up with it. But I'm sure there's such things in many games. Some have some sort of help menu you can look into, in Skyrim you can usually just talk to a Jarl for a bounty mission, and overhearing random NPCs chatting can unlock many missions (as can simply asking them about rumours and stuff), in ME3 you had your crew telling you about side-missions regularly, etc.
If we do make a daycare we'll probably make breeding as well, which kind of means neither is planned atm. One issue I can see is that this map is more real-time than the pokemon games - In pokemon things like daycare experience or egg hatching were based on how many steps you walked. Starmon doesn't have a grid you walk on nor any sort of "steps" mechanic. Firing a trigger 3 times a second for each player while they are walking to count steps would create needless lag. I can think of some workarounds to reduce performance taken by that though. But we can't really use real-time for that, cause then you'd just have the option of leaving the game on overnight and find yourself with +30 levels on your starmon, which is kinda a broken concept then.
Another thing is that we're putting in replacements for the functions of the daycare - You won't need to breed half a million starmon to get good IVs, you'll be able to re-randomize IV's for a price for example. Training starmon is overall easier since the arena gives you access to trainer for every level, similar to Mt. Battle in pokemon XD on the gamecube. On the gameboy games the easiest way to grind levels was by beating the league over and over again. Kinda the same here, except the "league" is level 100 instead of 60ish or whatever they were in the pokemon games. Slap Exp.Share on your low level starmon and fight a high rank trainer in the arena and you'll quickly get it to a high level. Completing quests/missions/events/whatever also gives your entire party a healthy chunk of EXP. We're also planning on making EV training a bit easier by giving you access to preset battles against starmon with specific EV rewards.
It's not the same as practically free levelling in the daycare, but when was "free progression" ever a good game concept? (It could sort of be considered a free "I-win-button" in an exaggerated way)
We actually have a very similar soundtrack to that one in place already ;) Still need to contact the author of that one though, so yours is a good replacement in case the author has something against us using it. The one we currently have is practically the same except a bit lower pitched.
Zelda has put together a large list of possible soundtracks we can use for various things. How many we use and for what occasions depends entirely on how much space we have left after we're done with everything else that requires storage space.

Will you guys be using custom soundtracks?
If so, I think this one would be suitable for a trainer battle: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/368469
And this one for a wild pokemon battle: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/322088
