I am creating a diabloesque sc2 RPG, and just for a heads up this is the beginning of development as I type, i am awaiting a new laptop which should be here within 1-2 days and will be installing sc2 immediately, I have some exp in map making with this editor in its pre release form but will have to relearn a lot, this project will be a WIP for some time until I get it to a playable version but i plan to work diligently on this project and plan on this being my only project until it is finished. I will possibly be looking for people to help with the project with terrain editing/plot lines and maybe other things (more decided after i start the editing process)
It will follow the story line of a Zerg invasion of a Terran Planet, the Zerg swarm will be called the Tel-Rathu Swarm (any stories on where they came from and backstories on this swarm would be appreciated I would like to get the community following the production of this RPG involved so feel free to comment giving me ideas!!)
Features I plan on integrating (again ideas here appreciated)
- 6 playable characters (3 Terran, 3 Protoss)
- 9 skills plus 3 passive abilities per character (each with 10 levels for a total of 120 skill levels)
- Leveling system with level 50 cap
- 4 hero attributes (vitality *health*, agility *speed*, endurance/energy *mana pools endurance for terran energy for protoss*, strength/dexterity *strength for melee and dexterity for ranged)
- A rich quest/storyline that expands through 4 maps
- Savable/Loadable characters between maps (all items and abilities transfered between games!)
- Random item drops with hundreds of rare and unique items
- Item shops and storage
- Dozens of tough enemy types and multiple boss battles per map
- Random events that may change every playthrough
- Waypoints to save hero progress on a map
- Balancing that makes no one character superior over the others
- 6 player co-op
- Scaling difficulty with added players
There will be many more smaller features that I will add as I go, please give feedback on what you think about the current features and any others I should add if any, I will keep you updated on progress to the map as i continue the project!

It looks like a very ambitious project. Seeing as you are not that experienced with the editor, it might be a hard task to overcome. However, I wish you good luck with the project.
Well I cant really say anything with this amount of information.
I have already seen what a pain in the butt it is to create RPGs in sc2. Map size is very small, handling quests is pretty hard, no matchmaking...
with that in mind. You should really think how you will execute everything. Making an RPG will take a long time, so I would work with it with and attitude "I have fun making maps, wheter it gets released or not".
Also you said you will expand to 4 maps? That sounds HUGE amount of work. Why not make 1 for starters, and really try to make it the best RPG.
You better complete this map in coming decade or it would have been a shame to waste your time by creating this topic.
This said I'm looking forward to see how this develops, grows, matures and finishes into a fine playable map containing all the wonderful features you've described.

also thank you everyone for the feedback, actuallt having people interested will keep me motivated, and i will do 1 map for starters and after release will start working on the next maps in the series they will be 'expansions' if you will, i may raise level cap with progressing maps and add new items/features/abilities as the series progresses. and yah im am still pretty new to mapmaking but theres millions of tutorials out there :)
quick update i got my laptop yesterday and am installing sc2 now, taking my laptop to work to start working on map on my downtime!!
It seems you have all in mind, but hard work will come to you, and alot of obstacles will make you want to stop. All you need to have its motivation. Good Luck with your project and regards. Feel free to post any doubt ;)
Reminds me of the project I started out on. I eventually put it on indefinite hiatus because I realized how little I actually knew about the editor. I am still learning.
Yah i have anywhere between 1-5 hours 5 if im lucky of downtime at work especially on weekdays, i work private ambulance in seattle so the weekends that i work dont give me much downtime but anytime we are just sitting waiting for calls i can open up the project although im not able to get large chunks down at a time it will still help being able to do that.

Looks like a cool project that my friends and I could enjoy!
I happen to have done before almost everything on you rlist (minus unit attributes but I think I could figure it out).

FYI just in case you don't know. You will need to constuct a good bank system to share the data between maps.
I'm not expert on Banks but at least I made them work. When I was looking into it there was almost no info on how to make banks work.
