Since iv been doing so much stuff with dialogs, I tought of making a card game now! (hopefully I can get it released too)
Whats this?
You build your own deck from bunch of different cards. You can use unit cards, special unit cards and spell cards! each card is different. Some have high attack and low defence, while others cannot attack at all but they can cast spells.
Gameplay
So after you have build your deck you can duel other people or computer. You get "card draws" every now and then, which allow you to take a new card from your deck after you have used or discarded your cards. When you "use" the card it takes some of your minerals and then spawn an unit to attack the enemy base.
Each race has its different qualities. Zergling units are cheap, terran expensive and powerful, protos have high defence. You can combine units from all 3 races if you wish to do so.
You can also sacrifice your units to gain "energy", which is needed to spawn special units.
Im also planning on adding option to save your deck.
I would like to hear what you think of the UI. I think it looks quite nice and simple, but not sure if its still too messy somehow....
You got so owned by those roaches... Anyway, nice UI :) Looks really good! If you can get an "artist" to make the cards look like actual cards, it'll probably be even better :) But the current thing serves its purpose perfectly :) If you need some beta testers or ideas, PM me on mapster :)
Too bad all the card games (at least the ones i saw) use automatic periodic resource gains and such stuff... I would really like to see a system similar to the WoW TCG (which i believe is very similar to the Magic The Gathering one, except that in WoW all of the resources are universal instead of elements and serve other additional purposes) altough that might be very hard to implement. Altough... Make the "resource" cards build a bunker or something, have that structure have an autocast ability that increases your res by 1 and a validator that makes sure your res is lower that the number of structures. If you feel like it, try ;)
I havent played wow TCG. But I tought about making different type of card game, with dialogs only. But then I tought It might look too messy and decided to go for "simple" version...but lets see how this turns out. Ill propably get somekind of beta version in 1-2weeks
Made some more progress with the map. In the video im fighting vs. computer player. It doesnt really do anything fancy, but It might still be good challenge for some...
Also few bugs on the video like Infestor insta killing hydra and hydra insta killing ultra :D....Well only couple of stats changes and it will be fine.
Currently the map has:
4 Unit cards
2 Special unit cards
2 fusion unit cards
2 spell cards
So not so still much to do. If you got ideas for spell cards or units I would appriciate them. I should try to design the cards in a way that allows multiple balanced strategies so the map wouldnt get boring.
Planned spell cards:
revive = revive 1 unit, special unit or fusion unit card from graveyard
poison = 100 damage for 5second
paralyze = stops unit from moving and attacking for 10seconds
Iv been adding lots of more cards to the game. Spell systems now working so it should be quite fast to add spells once I figure out what spells to make.
The map still needs a bit more content before testing. Im hoping to make atleast 12 spell cards and 18 unit cards before starting testing.
I think I might have finally fixed all starting battle bugs...Its so hard to say whats wrong when the bug occurs totally randomly, but I think its all good now (I hope next test doesnt prove me wrong)
I have also added support to save and load 5 decks, which seems to work fine.
In patch 1.2 I will most likey redo battle UI and add ability to name the decks you save. Other UI things should remain quite the same.
There is still lot more to do. I need to add more content and fix some other bugs and balance the cards.
Fulla also suggested I should make the game more simple, so Im still thinking about that. I guess I would need more opinions if the game is too complicated...I personally kinda like it the way it is now....
so all testers welcome on EU, add burne 478 and send a pm if you are willing to test :)
19 spell cards done so far! its quite and achievement :) since most of the spell cards are really unique and can heavilly alter your playing style. I still have an Idea for 1 more spell, but I need to get 4 more ideas to get 2 shops full of spells.
I also have added 1 more unit cards since last test (and 5 spells cards) so Im gona test these things again when I have time to do so. I also have few ideas for more unit cards so there is still lots stuff to do...Im still dreaming of making 100 cards...dunno how creatly card amount increases the replayability, but Im trying to make the cards based on different strategies.
Well the public beta is over. I guess you could say it wasnt as succesfull as expected, but I still got to know many things.
The map obviosly aint ready for bnet. Some people say its really good, but I guess majority of people will give up even before learning how to play this game (I would expect it would take atleast 1 game + 1-5mins to read the help, to learn some of the game). The map was around 4h games played today so it really wasnt a big hit :D.
I will release another beta once I make some adjustments. I will try to balance the game a bit, fix a few bugs and make somehwat new UI so its easier to just start playing. I will also add team mode for next public beta.
so we shall see if this can become as popular as the card game or will it sunk in to the void. For now Ill work with another project and return to card warriors once im done.
Been working with new UI and it should be quite easy to understand. Im still wondering about few things...should I add somekind of chat box, since im not sure if the dialogs will block player messages (make them hader to see).
Also fixed save/load system. Deck saving should work better and you can name your deck.
Also the Dueling screen is obviosly now finished yet (as you can see in the picture). Im just not sure should I go with the same layout as before or try to modify it? I would like to make it look better, im just not sure how should I do it...
the dueling screen just seems a bit too plain for me...what you guys think? Should I try to make it better somehow?

Huh? Shouldn't the Terrans be more defensively oriented and the Protoss have expensive and powerful units?

The main thing now is to increase the fun factor. The map feels quite fine, but Its hard to tell if its any good without some more testing...
