Here's hoping that this is the right place to post. It seemed like the best fit.
Anyway, I am, as many come to be, in need of inspiration. For a single player RPG I'm working on one of the heroes is trap based. I need ideas for the final ability that this hero can get (unlocks at max level). The suggestion I like the best earns my undying gratitude.
Explosive Trap: Stand on it. Deals damage in an area. Whoopee.
Frost Trap: Stand on it and get frozen for a short period.
Ice Slick: Stand on it and cover the area around you with frost. Slows movement speed in an area.
Napalm Slick: Same as above but deals damage and doesn't slow.
Secondly, the not-so-obvious:
Pressurised Trap: Launches you into the air. CCs you for a short duration while flying, then deals fall damage as you hit the ground.
Stasis Trap: Forms a cage around you once stepped on. Can move/attack/cast but cannot leave the cage until the cage expires.
Psionic Emitter: Standing on this nasty piece of work grabs the attention of a Zerg nydus worm, which erupts from the ground and spews Zerglings until killed.
Lastly, the inventive:
Nydus Trap: Stand on this. Something happens. Something rather obvious from the name, but less obvious from the inconspicuous sheep that makes up this trap's visual.
Donkey Trap: Looks like a cow. Smells like a cow. Hopefully you've played one of the Worms series, because it doesn't act like a cow.
Half asleep Trap: It's midnight and my imagination is gone. I don't know!
Catalyst socket: Can be socketed with another trap to boost its power significantly.
Unstable charge: Charges up, becoming more powerful over time, to explode on a passing unit.
Fungus mines: Mines that grow and spread over time, which explode on a passing unit.
Remote-detonated nanite explosive fabrication injector: Injects passing units with nanites that construct bombs inside the unit to be remote detonated by the trapper.
Slave crown: Mind-control device drops from the ceiling and takes control of a passing unit.
PiƱata: Trap appears as a unit your enemies will find hostile. When killed, it explodes and releases jellied incendiary which sticks to and burns units over time. Surprise!
Thanks for the responses guys. I'm liking the Piñata (of course), the Psionic Emitter, and the Pressurised Trap. Catalyst Socket would be fun but kinda hard to implement, I'd need to make a validator to tell if it was one of my traps or not. And I'd need to check what type of trap it was to see what kind of boost I'd give. Hmm.
