Hello sc2mapster, I'm Grey Nightmare, I'm from the hiveworkshop - you won't have heard of me - I all but guarantee it.
I'm here to present to you a project dreamed up by The World is Flat, some of you may know him, others may not.
Either way, again it's unimportant, what is important is the project, so I'll cut to the chase!
About
Warcraft: Legacy of the Damned (previously Wc4Sc2) is in it's simplest form; a conversion of Sc2 into an unofficial sequel to Warcraft III Reign of Chaos(and it's expansion the Frozen Throne).
The wait for Warcraft IV is going to be a long one (presuming it comes at all) with two more sc2 titles in the works and Diablo 3 and a brand new MMO just round the corner Blizzard don't seem in any position to refresh the Fantasy RTS mantle just yet.
So to be blunt, it seemed like a good idea to give us Warcraft fans something to tide ourselves over with.
I won't bore you with excessive details, if your interested, great, fantastic, we aim to please and you can find out more information at one or more of the following, whether you want to support, suggest or even join the team:
sounds kinda cool. I prefer starcraft 2 to Warcraft 3 big time, but I have beaten both Wc3 games. Never played matchmaking tho....Anyway the hardest part of all this is getting the models together. Did you consider just ripping models out of WoW and sticking in into your map instead of making them yourself? Quite a few WoW models have already been converted for easy sc2 use on this website.
Hey zelda, thanks for the reply!
I assumed that would be the case on sc2mapster ^_^ nevertheless, as you pointed out it could still be interesting to some of you guys.
Yes, undoubetedly that is the 'ultimate' challenge and just recently our chief modeler has started ripping models for 'placeholding' purposes but our ultimate aim is to convert it completely (including custom models) - but it's not an ideal world, so who knows?
Sorry for the absence, we had a shake up in the dev team :/
If your over at the Hive you'll know all about it of course ^^
Blizzard hasn't spoken out against WoW models and I doubt they ever will. So your A-OK to use them in other blizzard games for non-commercial purposes :)
Though a word of advice, they don't support team colour so could do with texture edits.
Thanks for the support guys, I'll try and post much more regularly over the coming months, particularly this summer!
Sure it's a cool idea, I'm sure lots of people have also thought of creating the same kind of mod.
However, the question is... can and are you willing to get this massive project done within a year? the thing about these massive total conversion projects is that they're all vaporware. just take Heart of Storms for example, better yet look at Project Revolution, that was a WC3 to SC total conversion and it barely got done, i had to step in to give the mod some light
Good question.
The answer? No.
Not a year, but the official war4 (should there ever be one) won't appear for several years to come, and that's the only thing that would give us cause for any concern. Were willing to put the time and effort in (as I'm sure is already apparent). We aren't "promising" to deliver anything, were not giving out release dates or ideas for demos because your right, many projects like this try and fail - who are we to claim were capable of breaking the "trend"? Were certainly not the most talented modders around, but we'll try our (and have been trying) our absolute upmost.
Only time will tell if this mod will officially see the light of day but I think with enough passion and support, almost anything is possible :)
Walle our 3D artist just revealed his WIP models for Rexxar.
There are both high and low poly ones, for cinematics and gameplay respectively though neither is finished just yet.

This is definitely cool :)
Saw this thread ages ago on hive, but havent stuck to that forum :p
Anyway, i cant wait till you're done, i'D really like to see this.
Hey this sounds cool, I have heard of this project before I think, when I was still mapping in Wc3.
I for myself am maybe going to do a remake of Warcraft 2 (and 1 maybe). Does anyone even know, if it is allowed to use the WoW models in a whole mod?!
I dont like the wannabe cartoon style, the original one is FAR better, let the style be like the intro movie of war2, that is what I think fits best.
