Does anyone know, how to modify for example the Ghost's Canister Rifle, so it uses the Drakken laser as a weapon effect?
If one of you guys played XCOM, the weapon should fire like one the weapons presented there. So...uh...a short beam:
Because it would complement my Ghost quite well, here's a picture:
(Credits for the dark Ghost texture go to user KORroy, which I modified a little bit). ;)
So, 358 view's by now and nobody seems to be interested in providing (as tiny as it may be) help/tipps. I don't want to be mean or to put anyone here down, I'm simply disappointed, that no one from the more experienced users bothers to provide some knowledge.
Consider it necro-posting or anything like that, I don't care. But it seems you have to be an awesome modeller/animator to get some recognization. >:(
Use a projectile based attack Weapon > LaunchMissile > Damage. The Launch Missile projectile unit needs to use the "Laser Drill Tripod Bigger Attack Beam" model. Keep in mind their may be some resizing needed I can give more assistance if you need any. Make sure to use at least WoL campaign dependencies

So, in the Data Editor, I selected the tab "Weapons".
In there is the "Effect" tab. Do you mean this. Modifiying the Weapon Effect?
Sorry for my stupidity, but fiddling with weapon stats has always been a pain...
OK, as it turns out, to make beam weapons work properly, you must go through some complex actor and effects work, which I myself have not figured out yet, I am sure I could if I were to try, but it has never been on my list of things to figure out because I am sorta lazy that way. Sorry, but you are going to need someone more learned of the data editor than me.

Looking for feedback on my custom races extension mod called "Scion Custom Races (Mod)"
But, if you don't want to go through complex steps, you can duplicate archons weapon and change it's shockwave beam model to what you want (drakken or colossus or some other neat beam, whichever you prefer).
Also, this really belongs in data, it being in art assets suborum made me think that this topic is about showcase of custom modeled laser impact effect. Probably explains lack of solutions and relevant posters.

Well, I got my problems with duplication. As I started with the Editor, my thoughts went to Warcraft 3. Copy unit, edit it > voila!
But nope, editing actors, customizing skills very difficult, creating units from scratch almost impossible.
The Galaxy Editor dwarfens the Editor from WC3, which was already very powerful. But it's understandable, that SC2 will never have the flourishing modding community WC3 had, unless Blizzard releases these goddamn Art Tools.
the art assets forum is really for new art assets, you could say this 'might' belong in the art development, but even then not really as that is again more for new stuff. This is a purety data editing thing and really should be in develpoment > data.
