Proof of concept for the RPG I've been working on since last August. WASD to move, and middle mouse to rotate the camera. In order to attack, you must hold down the right mouse button while hovering the cursor over an enemy. As long as you hold down the button you will continue attacking the last highlighted target no matter where the cursor is. Also, do not be afraid to hold down shift and run away if you are overwhelmed... shields are quick to regenerate if you do not take damage.
The World:
At the moment the only area that is populated with enemies and accessible is up and to the right of the starting area. The city to the north will include escaped convicts who have taken over, and there will eventually be about 15 different varieties of enemies. I am going to try to include a sewer system leading to an underground laboratory for the third act, and there will be 4 acts once I know how its going to end. This is single player so there will be missions, characters, dialog and a story (hopefully). There will also be some custom tunes.
Combat:
There are 4 weapons to choose from, including a long range rifle, a medium range shotgun, a long range stun-gun and a short range flamethrower. You can change weapons at anytime depending on the situation. Press Space to expend your shields and damage/stun surrounding enemies. Stunned enemies are vulnerable to damage and should be killed first. I will be adding pyre-bombs, remotely detonated charges, remote controlled spider bombs, and more fun goodies. I will also be implementing an ammo system and currency that you can redeem for weapon, ability, and armor upgrades.
Weapons-
Rifle: The rifle is a fast, long range weapon with a high damage variability. It is optimal against single and ranged targets, but remains a good all around weapon in most situations. Use it in conjunction with the stun gun for maximum results against large, armored targets.
Shotgun: The shotgun is a medium range weapon that can hit multiple targets in the same area. It is optimal against big groups of enemies standing closely together, but can still be used against single targets if necessary. Its low armor penetration makes it almost useless against tough enemies.
Laser: The laser is a slow weapon with a modest damage output, but it also has a chance to disable the enemy, holding them in place and doubling their damage taken for 5 seconds. This weapon is optimal against tough creature when use in conjunction with the rifle and other damaging effects.
Flame: The flamethrower is a short range weapon with an average damage output, but it can light enemies on fire, causing them to move slowly and take damage over time. It is optimal against weaker groups of melee, but tougher melee targets should be approached with caution.
Enemies-
Pest: A nuisance at best, the pest is slow and easy to kill. In groups they become more dangerous, but the flamethrower will make quick work of them.
Irradiated Pest: These are a lot like regular pests, except that they glow green and will leave a cloud of lingering poisonous gas when killed.
Resilient Pest: Much more of an annoyance than the regular pest, these have increased health and can close range much faster. They will keep your shield from regenerating if you attempt to retreat.
Thorn Beetle: The smallest member of the beetle family, these like to attack in groups by pelting their target with spikes from a distance. Since they are out of range of Shield Shock and the flamethrower, the ideal weapon to use is the shotgun.
Toxic Beetle: These nasty beetles will spit a poison that can slow you down and are usually a good first target in a group of aphids. They also emit a gas cloud upon death.
Rock Beetle: These giant guardians are tough to kill and can quickly regenerate life. They aren't very fast but if they catch up to you they can pack a devastating wallop.
Goon: These cowardly gunmen like to stick together, and are deadly in groups with gang bosses. They are weak, but if they fall below a certain amount of health they will make an attempt to run.
Bomb Boy: A heavily armored melee opponent who sports flamethrowers and will explode violently when killed, leaving a patch of burning fire.
Gang Boss: A tough adversary who likes to hide behind his goons, because he has an aura that increases their power. If he has no goons to protect him, he will call for reinforcements.
...And more!
If there is anyone with experience that can help me, it would be greatly appreciated. Mainly Data editing :D
Also feel free to leave comments if you think something sucks :D
dudes, this looks pretty legit! The weapons and how you implemented them is perfect IMO. It's not too much or too little, it's juuust right. I'm liking where this is going.
Thanks! I wanted to try and make reflexes and decision making the deciding factor in whether you live or die. If you go against a large group of melee with the rifle or try to kill the rock beetle with the flamethrower you are going to die probably. It is about the right tools against the right enemies at the right time. The bombs will work in a somewhat similar manner, for example you can use the RC bomb to neutralize buried groups of pests, but ranged units will just shoot it before it can reach them. I am going to have the bombs on a shared cooldown so that they don't become your main weapon, but they will be fairly OP to compensate.
