Just wanted to show off the Sprite engine/library I've been working on. I plan on turning it into a full single player RPG, with a quality and gameplay similar to Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy. It's a long way off. :P
If you're interested in any part of the process feel free to contact me about your skills and interests.
We need sprites in the lines of Disgaea, since they have 2d sprites on a 3d plane.
Although the game is a Turn Based RPG on a grid, it's a fun game.
Nippon Ichi Software is very good at making 2d sprites, and even I personally find their 2d sprites on 3d plains more interesting than full 3d games (with cellshaded or not).
The inspiration for the environment (2D/3D) definitely comes from Ragnarok Online for me. The individual sprite design will hopefully be inspired by Chrono Trigger, which was my favorite sprite game in terms of graphics. The plotline and character advancement systems will be unique but will draw from what I feel are the strong points in Chrono Trigger and the Final Fantasy series, among other great single player RPGs.
@rrowland That is legit man! The sprites look very nice on the sc terrain too. It actually looks very artistic. I could see a lot of people playing this.
lol in your vid you say to go buy CT if you haven't played it before.
I just want to mention that buying CT will probably run you in the high hundreds of dollars to a thousand. Since you know... they don't make the game anymore (and you have to get it off ebay).

LOL, wat? I assume you're talking about chrono trigger. That game was released twice (on ps and ds). You can find it for maybe 15 on DS. Plus you can also play it as a rom if you look for it.
I have the original game (for snes), it's just a collector item now.

2d starcraft anyone? You could try creating sprites by taking them out of the original game... Or make 8 bit versions of them by yourself if you can do so, and put it into the game...

Neat idea!
I've actually been playing Final Fantasy III on the SNES recently. I love those old games. :P
@rrowland:
Hahah that's slick as hell dude. Screw RPG Maker, all we need is Galaxy :P
o lawd...

I can't find the actions to do 2d images. :(

That's fun :)
That's awesome hahah, I love it. Should definitely make making RPGs easier, not having to have entirely new models for everything.
@rrowland: Go
Cool. That could make sc1 remake much more easier. ( and true to the original)

@rrowland:
The music makes it wonderful. A 2d sprite wandering randomly around... ah... the nostalgia.
That's pretty damn impressive! Great work on finding out how to do this.

Actually, I was just referring to a new unopened edition of the SNES version.
Buying used copies or newer versions totally slipped my mind.

this is pure win... I hope i see more customs using this concept :D
