I've been seeing a lot about the remake of starcraft and brood war done in the starcraft 2 engine.
I was wondering if there were any plans to do something similar, but using the starcraft 2 tech tree, units, buildings, etc.
I really like the level design and everything of the remake, I just don't see the point in doing 99% of everything the same. May as well just play the original.
But the original missions using things like vikings, void rays, motherships, infestors, etc sounds like it would be great.
I always thought that Starcraft 2 pretty much gets it right in terms of making the game faster paced, frantic and strategic.
Considering that all the map work and things have already been done, it doesn't even seem like it would take that long to strip out the SC1 units and replace them.
no, I don't want to see infestor or anything from sc2 in sc1 campaign, because infestor did nothing with sc1 actualy didn't exist in the year of sc1. Also it would ruin the balance
Isn't that once again "doing 99% of everything the same"? I think people should do some something new. Meaning new campaigns, with new units and new objectives.
I agree with the above, there's tons of people working on re-done Starcraft 1 Campaigns already, more people should concentrate on making fresh, new campaigns
Not saying don't do anything new. In fact I'd love some decent new campaigns. But if we're doing remakes, may as well do a SC2 build remake.

Im not looking for a lore overhaul here, it wouldnt have to make sense in a time line. If you really needed it to then maybe everything happened four years later.
And I think the balance of SC2 multiplayer is extremely good. Each race feels more distinctive than they did in SC1 where Protoss felt to me like expensive terran, and you can find people arguing that every race is overpowered. If they all are, none are.
If you forget about lore then there is still the question if the units and balance of sc2 make sense in the sc1 campaign. Some maps were designed to specifically practise with specific units (like the Reaver in one of the first missions of the Protoss campaign). In other maps you would mainly use wraiths, which can also attack air. The sc2 equivalent (banshee) can't target air units. Also, imagine the player being able to build dozens of Dark Templars while the Overlords don't even have detection (in sc2). Melee balance is entirely different from campaign balance when you aren't able to build all types of units and the players start with an asimetrical balance situation.
I think the purpose of the sc2-remake is really nothing more than redoing as much as possible in a new engine - which in my opinion has plenty to offer: nicer graphics, 3d, better controls, AI. .. but I miss the cinematics :(

Or they can implement said units in the game as well. There are already models for wraiths in game and player made models for the rest.

Anyone interested in this, or just me?
