I've been thinking about this map that several players are survivors after some sort of apocalypse (preferably a zombie virus). The main things i would like to implement is something that has yet to be done (or has it?) like crafting and replayability through random resources.
Crafting
What i've been thinking of is that you have a inventory of lets say five items and you press open a crafting window to see what you can craft from the stuff that is in your inventory.
Recipes:
Alcohol + Cloth = Molotov cocktail
Fruit + Alcohol = Fruity drink
Fuel + Compressor + Random stuffies = Flamethrower (?)
Terrain
The terrain i have in mind is post-apocalyptic. The idea of random resources will be that resources are somewhat random generated all over the map so every playthrough is diffrent.
Day and night cycle
It will be a cycle, days will be longer then nights. At night baddies come out, there will be more baddies out at night as the game progresses, maybe you must have a heat source at night.
Professions and attributes
You will have the knowledge of whatever job you had before the apocalypse. Attributes am i still unsure of but they will be more of the kind of person your character is.
The rest
The player character will always be a colonist you will never find a battlesuit in a trashcan, because of that most attacks will be abilities and you should be able to build a auto-turret somehow.
One of the reason i'm posting this is that i had a hard time figure everything out and as you can still see i need help brainstorming so please say your oppinion and/or suggestions.
Sounds cool. Not sure if you already thing of this, but I'd implement a random scavenging system. So stuff you can pick up is randomly scattered around the map. This way the game is different each time.

Sounds good. Island Troll Tribes was awesome :)...
I would try and keep PvP elements also, so maybe its like two groups of human players at first trying to survive the nights but at the end, are fighting each other.
@zeldarules28: Go
Thats what i meant, need to edit that... But in a way that fruit trees doesn't grow up on rooftops and scrapmetal can't be found in the grassy areas.
@Nardival: Go
Well maybe fight for eachothers resources and food but one player shouldn't be able to mess up a round by just wanting to kill others.
I had a similar map in mind some times ago.
I'll tell you some of the stuffs i wanted to add, feel free to take inspiration.
The game starts in a common city, but for some reasons resources income (food, fuel and general goods) slowly falls down bringing fastly the chaos in the city.
Starving people (growing in number as the game goes on) will assault supermarkets, shops and the few trucks that still arriving.
Police will try to mantain order over the city, killing rebels.
And in this game the player is just one of the civilans, and he has to find food and resources all around the map (in abbandoned cars, houses, corpses, etc) to survive the longer he can.

Like a cooperative Island Troll Tribes in an end time scenario? Sounds like fun ;)
