Mapster Madness is a new project, initiated by me, mainly driven by me, but created by the SCII MAPSTER community.
The idea behind this project is as following:
· A Hero Arena game
· Mapsters get their own custom hero with custom abilities
· It will be AWESOME!
Icons, models, abilities, sounds, ideas. All by the mapsters. I will work hard on this in the summer while having a life on the side, LOL :P
The map is based on the style of play that SoTIS and DotA have, but with faster gameplay, shorter games, and less item-based. (no boots)
By killing enemies, you gain resources to upgrade your hero.
HEROES
There are 5 types/classes of heroes
Type 1 is a Spellcaster/Support Hero with at least 1 heal. It has a medium-fast movement speed (2.25 to 2.75), and a weak-medium attack. It has low to medium health (700-800).
Type 2 is a Tanking Hero. It has a slow-medium move speed (2.00 to 2.25), and a medium-strong attack. It has a great amount of health (1100-1200).
Type 3 is a DPS/Attacker Hero with mostly damage abilities. It has a fast move speed (2.5 to 2.75), and a strong attack. It has medium health (800-900).
Type 4 is a Summoner Hero with 2-6 summon. It has a medium-fast move speed (2.25 to 2.75), and a weak-medium or even no attack. It has medium health (800-900).
Type 5 is the Stealth Hero. It can be either cloaked when out of combat, or have a cloak ability. It has a very fast move speed (2.75 to 3.25), and a strong but slow attack. It has low to medium health (700-800).
Energy standard is 300. (can be upgraded)
Ability count standard is 4.
If you want some more detailed info, feel free to comment.
– – IMPORTANT STUFF HERE – –
Every hero should represent a mapster!
POST YOUR HERO IDEA IN THIS THREAD or as a PM or on the Official Map Page.
The stealth hero is the only cloaking hero type. It is fast and agile, and it's purpose is to run in, attack, and run out. it is basically a damage dealer, but it can't stand being in the front for too long.
It is mainly for the purpose of killing enemy heroes, to make it easier for his allies. (and just being badass)
How is this (Stealth) different from a DPS/Attacker warrior-type hero?
It requires better micro.
It attacks in waves, and cannot keep standing in the line of fire.
Sounds a lot like Smashcraft. I like the Idea of an Micro based Skill Arena. Not sure if it will do well, because there are players on BNet who have played this genre and people who have not. The skill difference between those players are often high. Besides that I would like to see a Ranged Tank that uses Magnets to pull or push enemies/allies to him. But he has to apply a Node(Charge of magnet energy) to a hero to be able to pull that hero. The Tank would have some AoE Abilities to apply Node's to Enemies/Allies. Deal's low damage, but is really AoE Based. Hope this will get you on some Idea's and if not I could create the Hero =]
If you could somehow explain how the magnetism would work, i can do it.
I am currently working on the basic systems of the game, and i will take ANY suggestions to make the map original.
The hero would be "Patrick Wafflemaster", AoE tank, with magnets, am I right?
Also, should it be like a Marauder Kill Team model?
The magnetism would work like this: The Tank's abilities apply a Behavior(Buff) that will run out after a few seconds. If the tank uses another ability and the Target still has the Behavior(Buff) it will pull or push(With the Apply Force Effect) the target towards or away from him depending on what stance the Tank has(Posative or Negative). I'm not sure if you want to go as far as the stance's. Just pull would also be good.
Uhm for the name bit... Does it have to contain the Mapster Name? Thought of something of a name like:"Tagnet". Else "Patrick Wafflemaster" sound pretty funny and delicious. For the Model I thought more of an Archon since Magnetism has a lot to do with energy etc.
The Attachment has an example but without the Behavior(Buff) thingy =\
I have created a few testing heroes, but I still need submissions.
I will start out with my hero:
Name: Shadowhunter Flinks
Model: Dark Stalker
Type: Stealth
Passive Abilities:
Shadows of Combat (No requirements)
Shortly cloaks Flinks, upon taking damage. (Half a second)
Special Abilities:
Blink (Requires Blink research)
Teleports Flinks to a nearby location.
Dark Burst (Requires Dark Burst research)
Damages 260 to a single target. Long range.
Blinking Strikes (Requires Blinking Strikes research)
Blinks Flinks around, using his standard attack up to 8 times, on up to 8 different enemy units. Takes 3 seconds to finish.
This seems like a nice map, and giving people heroes will boost their willingness to take over for them if you become unable to. Also, I would wait until after Heart of the Swarm to release it. I don't know why, but I just have this feeling that it would be better to wait.
@Flinkelinks: Go Passive ability: Vengeful Curse, it debuffs or causes damage to any unit that attacks the hero for a short time.
Abilities: Life Consumption, basically Tosh's consumption, but it can be used on enemy units. Maybe it heals the hero instead of recovering energy, I don't know.
Bad Sign: Strong AoE debuff, make enemy units movement and firing speed slower, could also include other effects, lik reduced weapon range and so on. Or maybe disable abilities.
Voodoo: Places a strong curse in a single unit, with even more side effects than Bad Sign. Also makes the unit share its vision with the caster.
These are just ideas, I hope you think them through and make them better ;-)
Name: Scorp the Scantipede
Model: Scantipede
Type: Tank
Passive Abilities:
-Missing name-
Scorp the Scantipede gains 15% additional movementspeed while in combat.
Special Abilities:
Firetrail (on/off, costs energy per second)
Scorp the Scantipede leaves a trail of fire behind him, that lasts for 3 seconds and deals heavy damage to all nearby enemies.
-Missing name- (low-medium cooldown)
Scorp the Scantipede pulls a target enemy towards him, dealing a small amount of damage and slow the target by 30% for 2 seconds.
-Missing name- (medium-high cooldown)
Scorp the Scantipede enrages, gaining increased movementspeed and health regeneration, as well as slowing attackers' movement- and attackspeed when hit. Lasts 10 seconds.
Scorp the Scantipede has no auto-attacks. It's damage output mainly comes from Firetrail. It's meant to be a tough character, running around the battlefield, trolling it's opponents with dragging them into Firetrails.

I hope it kind of answers your questions.
Yet another early update!
MODELS!!!
If you want a custom model for your hero, you have to provide it or link to it.
I have downloaded/located many models and some of them are:
· Dragoon
· L2D units
· Aiur Chef
· Campaign units (incl. Dark Protoss)
· Warfield and Tychus
· Murluc Marine
Every hero needs team colors, but ask for whatever you want. I'm sure we can make it happen :)

@patrickwobben: Go
Nice! Tagnet Wafflemaster the magnetic Archon, maybe :D I'll make this hero tomorrow or the day after.
(Dark archon?)
Sounds good to me and a Dark Archon Model would also be great =]
@patrickwobben:
It seems as though your magnetic abilities aren't working properly...
The map is now in early pre-alpha and, it will be available when it's ready. Concept and pics coming ASAP.

@Flinkelinks: Go Hey, have you worked on my hero? I can think of a few abilities for him.
@SoulFilcher: Go
Not yet, but just list up your ideas. I'll be looking at it tomorrow.

@jaxter184:
Yes, I plan to wait until then.
@SoulFilcher:
I am busy with exams, but the Alpha version will include your hero ;)
I call hydra for my model. (unless someone already has it)
@jaxter184:
You can be the hydra. Now, how do you want your hero to be? Abilities, weapon, speed?
