Basically I want a map that is true to the Starcraft lore. I'm talking about giant Motherships the size of 4 normal ones, Battlecruisers with about 10 guns, 4 super-speedy Zerglings from one egg and so on.
I want this because I'm bored of the competitive games on ladder and I just want something fun and casual. Ideally I would like it to be a full game mode on HotS or something, made by Blizzard, but I would love it if some mod-maker could do it.
So, Is anyone else interested and could anyone make it?
I once started a mod for BfME 2: RotWK (it was called the ), basically making units production 10 times faster than it's supposed to be. It was amazingly fun to play, though the AI was kind of stupid (it might be the same in SC2 because the AI is based on timings and the size of attack groups).
I think it's fairly easy to do the same with SC2, giving over-exaggerated firepower to some tier 3 units (battlecruiser, carrier, broodlords) and training "cannon fodder" units (marines, zerglings, zealots and such...) much MUCH faster. You'll probably have to increase the population limit as well, the idea though is to keep the upgrades as they are originally, to somehow maintain a little bit of order among the chaos (and besides, it should make the game a little more interesting than just rushing like crazy with a massive pack of zerglings, eventually ending any game in less than 5 minutes). You could probably add heroes from the CC/Nexus/Hatchery, though the Zerg race doesn't have any yet besides the Queen of Blades (until HotS comes out)...
Yes I checked the wiki a few weeks ago already, for a map I'm working on I needed a few Zerg names... You're right about the Leviathan, but the "big queen" is basically just a slightly edited queen with scripted routines. Maybe the fatty model could be used for a heroic unit of some sort... About Torrasque and the others though, sadly they're from SC and BW, not from SC2, so they don't have their own model that we could use as it is in the editor. Just making standard units bigger with a change of tint is not enough in my opinion to make them look like heroes. It would be best if they each had their own custom model and animations, just like Nova is different from a ghost and Raynor & Tychus are different from marines/mercenaries...
If you're talking about realism a marine can't be trained in a few seconds. Units can't be built within game time-scale. Units can be deployed, dropped from above or whatever, but from a realistic point of view a Battlecruiser takes months to be completed, but when it does.... I can't be killed by marines, it could stay out of the range of any ground unit and still attack them all, attack the whole battlefield, blow up everything, same for Carriers and so on.
So, you can tweak lots of things, but you can't talk about realism... lol. But I'd play it for sure.
Ah good point xD. When I said realistic, I meant with the unit's stats. I want the build time to be quick (but not insanely so). Marines should be about the same but receive a slight nerf to health or something and zerglings should be horifiicly bad but you can make like 100 in 20 seconds or something (slight exaggeration). Some more things that I thought of:
Creep should, well, creep. It should slowly move forward and creep tumours should expand it much quicker.
Thors should be insane. Maybe use the Odin model and make it even better than one Odin.
Hydralisks have some other melee attack that does more damage or something.
And even More!
EDIT: Love your map by the way, one of my favourite customs :D!
@TheNewerBakery: Go I think you're headed the right way. The way standard melee is, sometimes there isn't much advantage in teching up to get higher tier units. Mass marines is useful in a scale it shouldn't be. I'd like to see battlecruisers shooting them like the Hyperion does in the campaign, with laser everywhere.
I'm planning on making something really fun that revolves around the general idea you want here. Except, I wish I had the computer to make it, which I do not at the moment sadly. However, when I do get to it, I'll be sure to inform you and keep you updated if you want. It's a really fun concept and I always aspire to create some fun melee mods.
Exactly! Great to see a lot of people understanding and making the concept even better :D! Now that the idea is picking up some steam can anyone else think of some more awesomely insane lore stuff that would be good for this :)?
Hi, i've been doing some sort of mod that follows this. It's been for over a year. I'm trying to fit lore and some cool game stuff. Also until now i've been able to make a fairly balanced melee game (including purifiers, plasma battlecruisers and a lot of stats changes).
I've even added a behavior that creates debris when a building is destroyed. I'm not really good in the editor but i do allright, i've added the campaign units, sc1 units and some abilities, i could add more but it seems in a melee game you already have to many choices for all races so you couldn't use them all in a real competitive match.
Still, your idea is fun and not balance and since that's my goal too i'd like to join you, my mod is almost finished; only a couple of actor errors (literally a couple) wich i havent' been able to find since i don't work with anyone and don't have a test team.
I've put a daylight system and modified unit cap for all races, (let's say zerg can have like 800 zerglings if he wants) also increased/decreased unit model size for all to fit better in scale. Battlecruisers, motherships, carriers and leviathans are huge and marines really look like ants. In fact you have to implement a zoom in/out camera system depending in the scale of battle since the battlecruiser don't fit in screen when you zoom in enough to see the marines. I wanted to make them bigger but the map size restricts me and also i couldn't make small units smaller.
If anyone interested in making a team or even testing the map tell me since it's not published in battlenet.

That... is... AWESOME! WILL WORK 2MORROW.
EDIT:
Wait that means queen of blades could come...
Terrans can nuke everything...
And protoss could... Well... Purify...

Exactly! The main focus is fun, balance doesn't really matter too much :).
Go un-balance!

None of the OP stuff matters. I'm still gonna give carriers purifier beams.

I really want to see where this is going...
I sense that this 'project' is going into the eternal abyss of the Void.
This requires a lot of work, stress, data working and love... but any realistic game has a realistic terrain.
If somebody here does create a reality map, I would be glad to do a reality terrain for it <3 .

Yeah, that might be a problem. Hopefully someone will build it eventually though, I think it would be really fun!
