Hello my name is Neal or as I was in my SC1 days, (U)Bolt_Head. Some people may remember I was pretty big in the SC1 map making arena for several years. At one point someone even tacked my name onto the Starcraft Wikipedia, but enough of that I don't think anyone cares.
I have been playing SC2 Beta for a while now with some RL friends and am interested in learning the map editor and risking undergoing total obsession what that of Starcraft Mapmaking.
I have been playing around with the StarCraft 2 Editor for a day or two and am rather lost. If anyone has made some Introductory or SC1 to SC2 Tutorials I would appreciate being pointed in the correct direction.
PS. I can't believe someone took my user name "BoltHead"...
Hey, welcome back! I was Urmom(U)/SaniK(U) back on SC1, I think you had retired literally right when I joined. Check out onetwo and Bifuu's tutorials on youtube, they are a good place to start. You can check out the map I have uploaded as well if you want.
Thanks Atl0s for the info I'll look it up. I haven't even tried looking at anyone other maps yet, maybe I overestimate myself. Were all newbs at some point right?
I remember both you an sixen but I don't really remember any specifics.
Hey bro, you don't know me, but I've heard you were a big-name mapper back in the day. sen is still going if you're interested, and there's plenty of old farts that probably want to see you back there ;D
Hey, Jack thanks. Yeah I know SEN is still alive, I'm a rather busy person and don't want to over exert myself too much so I'm going to just stop by here every once in a while.
I've been out of town for a couple of days but I think I'm starting to get a hang of the editor. I'm making a lame Tower D as a starter project. I have worked some with dialogs and defined an implemented the waves with a unit array. (pretty cool stuff) When I get back home I'll dive into the Data Editor some more. I'm still very newb but I think I've made good progress for only having spent two sessions with the editor =)
Man I swear I used to think I knew everything you could do with the editor, and then one day Bolt took the time to show me some of the crazy shit he was doing: elaborate maps with 1 location, crazy ass tricks with 1 location, pretty sure he even did grids with 1 location (etc etc etc) and I'm telling you he was doin it before 99.9% of people had any idea it was possible. Like me he knew a lot but didn't finish an equally large amount of maps.
I know you retired man but really you're one of very few people that have given me the inspiration to become a great mapmaker in SC2.
(BOLT ROCKS)
So, I've had a large amount of experience organizing large groups of people in WoW (guild and raid leader). I am totally interested in attempting to connect all of us old (U) members together (and adding to our ranks). I know you're just chillin Bolt I don't expect you to do anything leader-like lol (except join cuz I luvz u :O) :D. I'm not really interested in being the Clan Leader or anything, but I am willing to contribute quite a lot regardless of what rank I am given. I just want a new (U) lol.
Btw if you still don't remember me I'm the guy that made the crazy curved DodgeBall map with waay too much text that you barely let join. Multiple times (actually DBall map was 2nd time I joined I think). :D
Hey Barrin thanks for filling my Ego cup back up, it was running low. I know I did a couple of bounds with one location but I don't think I restricted much else to one location. I did experiment with the technique a lot making things that people looked at and just said 'but why'. I never really finished much of the work that expanded on that. (Unit-less grid based maps ect..)
Anyways As far as a clan (U) goes I would enjoy being a part of it as a tribute to old times and as a way to connect with people right off the bat who I share a common history with. I would enjoy the close connection with a small group of people as you share your maps with one another and help test each others work. I do believe however that the overwhelming purpose of map making clans such as (U) is no longer needed with advancements in internet technology of the last decade. The term "Mapping Community" has a whole new meaning than it did in the days of WebRings when in-game clans were the closest connection to mapping current events you could get. So in that since I feel Map making clans are taking a step backwards towards segregation and is not in the best interest of map development. Collaboration is wonderful, but isolation is not.
Hmm yeah you have a good point. When they open up in-game chat channels (or give us group-based in-game chat channels), I think the whole SC2 Mapster community should meet in a single channel. I totally like keeping it close-knit, but I wouldn't want to exclude anyone from the mapping community. In fact, I'm pretty sure the entire mapping community wouldn't be too big at all (yet). 10-30 people in the channel at any given time would be awesome IMO. I bet this idea is floating around somewhere else on this website though >.< I don't want to exclude myself from "their" channel either, so they should be the same channel IMO (not that I expect any control over it).
Hey bolt, Welcome back well I'm pretty sure you already know this but allot of people already know the editor from wc3. Most of the skills of the pro editors come from wc3. The Tutorial part of the forums have some pretty good basic tutorial to get you started.

Barrin just joined today too, mwhahaha. Whatever happened to Pickle? He got into Melee and then I hadn't seen him again.
(U)BOLT_HEAD IS MY IDOL!
Lol! :D
Whats up dude it's been a long time.

Bolty said that he'd have to join "just because", :P.

They'll also be introducing a Guild support feature, with a Guild Chat channel. I think i'll create an SC2Mapster Guild, :).
