I want to move on to some more advanced map and mod editing, but all the guides I've tried online are either really basic or dead complicated. Can anybody suggest a guide that's a sort of medium level?
What I know:
general data editing:
changing unit stats, modifying abilities, nothing on making new abilities, working with actors, and nearly nothing on behaviours or effects.
triggers:
I used to do triggers in SC1, but I am thouroughly confused by the triggers in Galaxy Editor.
What I would like to know:
Actors:
basic things like changeing the overall tint of an already-made actor.
Data:
generally more advanced data editing, everything I have done till now has been trial and error, and I dont know how to do much.
I would also like to know how to record things in inter-game banks- not sure what category this falls under
thx
Yup the data editor is more complex than the sum of it's parts. I advise doing what I did and spend a couple of days looking at an editor with campaign dependencies enabled looking at how the pros did it. Eventually you get to understand the general order of how things are done. In general actors are visuals only controled by events while abilities are buttons linked to the command card or used by issue order effects/triggers. Behaviours are applied by effects or passively by units directly and behaviours in turn can be created by effects or apply effects themselves. The wiki on this site is slowly covering all the facets of the data editor but it takes time (especially with some data types having over 150 fields to cover). Have you read the mentoring thread on this site where it gives a list of people willing to help you with any problems you have.
Well, I can answer your question about changing the tint color of an actor, Luckily, this is one of the easier things to accomplish. Start by finding the actor whose color you wish to change. Go to "Event" and right click on that box-thing. Select "Add Event." Then, change the event MSG type to "Actor Creation." Then, you should change the term to "Set Tint Color." After that, the actor should be tinted the color you chose in-game.
I've got some tutorials in my signature if your interested (although they are fairly old, I should make news one soon....). OneTwo SC has some great video tutorials, too.
