I have been considering making a map consisting of 12-14 Middle-East Countries taking place in modern times, With a Civilization style diplomacy/alliance system and I was debating whether or not it would be allowed/condemned if I used real country names. (Israel / Iran / Iraq / Syria / MAYBE Isis or rogue state or something like that.).
Also if it was ok to use names like Islam/Judaism and such not in an offensive way just to describe a countries official state religion or something this isn't as mandatory for the map though I could just state different religions for the relations modifier.
Wasn't sure which section to use sorry if its the wrong one lol.
Blizzard may or may not care, however, people will almost certainly report it and that will lead to Blizzard removing the map.
In general, it is poor form to use current world affairs as a direct template. I don't endorse any kind of censorship, but understand the consequences of using such things. It is no different (in many peoples eyes) the swearing at them: Fine to do, just live with the repercussions.

Also yeah I don't intend to have messages or events that talk about a countries history it would almost entirely be This players nations Name "Iran" this players religion is different from Israel - 50 relations between Iran and Israel or something like that so It wouldn't really use any language of any kind other then proper real country names.
More than likely I'll craft it then see how its like in play then change names/time periods till it isn't relevant I guess thanks all.

Out of curiosity, what happens when a map is banned? Do you get an account warning? An account ban? Are your other maps taken offline during the ban if there was one? Did you get a warning beforehand or just informed afterwards?
First off Yes your map would probably get removed if you don't represent the World Nation and Religion correctly. I already see inconsistencies with your understandings about what Nation Israel Religion is. Israel is really Zionism which is way more radical then the regular Judaism because Zionist believe America(USA) was basically created to destroy Islam. While with Islam its religion is more versed around the religion begin the State while the Nation states are just titles of nobility that Western states(Romans) have forced. The real nobility is in the bloodline and their very tribal based because of this. When it comes to America we have no Religious state therefore America has given equal choice to all Religious beliefs fashioned with the Leaders beliefs. That begin said Christianity is a religion of belief which in turn Atheism is a religion of disbelief and this is the ultimate path that all religion succumb to begin, either a religion of life or a religion of death those are the only two religions to pick from for this brave new world.
I mean chances are when I do release something I properly wont make any mentions of religion for the reason that its to controversial no matter it seems the context it exists in.

The chances will be very easy to dispute against if one person who dislikes a viewpoint in your game when that viewpoint is proven fact. The greater part of the problem will be on the generalization of religions for your map in the terms on how you want to go about it... Lot can be said here but I will keep the focus on religious labels. See if your just wanting to attribute any kind of general religious labels for any national territories, then there is nothing wrong with that but in the deeper context of things there will always be something that is not portrayed correctly like a certain religious faction.

EDIT: Don't publish a map about religions, You're going to waste your time because it will be removed eventually. If you think your map idea has good gameplay mechanics use them in a way that won't get it removed, if it doesn't have good gameplay mechanics it was purely for having said religions fighting each other, which isn't worth playing imo.

The usual issue with doing what is considered offensive is very few are willing to live with the consequences of their actions. Feel free to portray any group as one wishes, just understand when that group then portrays you in a not so positive way as well.
As for americans being evil, no, but the United States is not some pure beacon of light, we've committed and condoned atrocities throughout our history, including genocide. And I'll leave it at that.

My advice, just say fuck it. Realize your vision. You shouldnt self-censor your own creative vision due to some vague imaginary threat of offending some people. Theres nothing in Blizzards terms of service that states you cant have a map that deals with islam or anything. Also, what do you have to loose? The worst thing that can happen is that Blizzard can take down your map, which very likely wont happen.
And if they still do it and take your map down, you can just reupload it with changed names, which gives you the opportunity to do some really offensive shit without having to worry, like renaming America to "Hawkeyed Usurpers" and Iran to "Sand People" and only the people that have played your map before the initial takedown will know whats up.
In any case, just do it, I dont think you have anything to worry about.
I have a map out 'currently' that has 2 races named "Holy" and "Demonic" that people can play as, i dont get as specific as Muslim or any other religion but it does contain References to religion like "Priest, Shaman, Angel" or on the other side it has "Vampire, Ghoul, Lich" and it seems to be doing ok, for the time being, lol. Good question though.
And then they get the second map reported, notice it is a repeat offender and ban your account, 40 USD down the drain.

Blizzard has actively featured and supported maps that go against their own terms of service - keep in mind this religious nonsense doesnt even go against them.
