Hey guys, I haven't played Starcraft II in a number of years (and being the smug asshole I was at 16, pirated it, forgive me!), and am very unfamiliar with the modding & map scene that's built up since the game came out. However, I do remember that a team was working on recreating/"rebooting" the old Wc3 custom game Life as a Peasant (way too many versions to specify a single map) as Life of a Terran and had made some progress. I think I might even have one of the old maps somewhere in my downloads. Sadly, it seems like the work didn't really continue after 2010, and I have no idea if anything remotely similar is being planned or worked on at the moment.
I know a lot of people gave LoaP a lot of flack for being unbalanced and for having a bunch of crappy knock-offs back in the day, but it was still pretty fun and relatively popular map that you could usually find a game of it-or Real Life [For Morons] which I think's much better-being hosted pretty regularly. It seems like no-one's really made something similar for Sc2 (at least as far as I know). Did another team "pick up" where LoaT left off, or at least try and develop something similar? If not, I'd love to try and help out someone interested in making one (I've got some general knowledge in terrain-albeit in the Wc3 editor), even if it ends up unfinished or something.
Sorry if something along these lines has been posted before, I didn't want to go necroing long dead threads just out of my curiousness.
I've been wanting to make a life sim map for a long time, but in reality I probably won't get around to it. The main thing that's preventing me from getting past the planning stage is the lack of decent civilian models. The current ones are fugly and WoW ones aren't high enough quality/also look bad. Maybe LotV could bring some new ones in.
That's really a shame. people have actual things to work on, but surely there'd be a small number of modders who might be interested? I know there's a requests sub-forum, but I feel like modeling and skinning things from scratch (?) would take a while, and without a solid concept the artist's work might not work for the map. I'm thinking out loud here, I guess, but would something like a post looking for people interested in helping in the Team Recruitment forum be appropriate? I don't have enough experience or time to head a team, but I would be very interested in helping with concepts and terraining.
You might have looked it up some more since I last posted (sorry for the delay, but work!), but LoaP was a pretty simple role-playing custom map where the players could choose to be a Peasant in an urban environment, or an organization (such as the Police, Mafia, Drug Cartel, etc.). There's no definitive version, and there were tons of knock-offs, "themes" and other variations on the formula. However, the basic concept for getting a job, roleplaying with other characters, and whatever else the map offered stayed the same. What I was thinking of for Sc2 would be a refinement of the same formula, but with some noticeable changes, including non-Player controlled entities for larger institutions like government, crime, and other "big-scale" powers, but give the players the opportunity to do whatever they want in said map (i.e. join those organizations, get a job, etc.).
No idea where to really start, though.

Would you mind giving a short summary on what LoaP was like? I think I did play it, but yeah, really cannot remember.
edit: Looking at screenshots, I definitely did not play it
