Hello all, I am a Protoss player in the NA Region. I am in the PST time zone and I'm available at basically any time. If this changes I will inform those recruited.
This team will be using Skype, though e-mail and MSN is available.
This project is about creating a Tactics style game for Starcraft. If you have played Final Fantasy: Tactics, Tactics Ogre, or Vandal Hearts (and many others) you have a good idea of what I am aiming for.
What I will be doing is writing the story for Starcraft: Tactics. It will be as lore friendly as possible. All those involved may input their story ideas, class ideas, and so forth. I will also be directing the game flow, only in a way that it fits as a Tactics game and flows with the story. As far as Data editing I will do what I can but my skills here are limited... which is why I am recruiting. I do hope to learn from skilled individuals however. If I feel I can take on more responsibility, I will. If I could have done this game solo I would have.
As for roles I need filled; Cutscene Editor, Inventory System, Character Status (you know, levels and stuff), someone who might have a clue on how to do the grid-based combat that Tactics games are famous for (this is the big one), someone to make an overland map that can be traveled like a traditional tactics game... it will probably use planets though, Unit creator (Monsters, Regulars, and Heroes). As you can see I'll need about 8 people to fill all these roles. If more volunteer themselves I will allow them to take off some of the load from the others.
Currently there is nothing done for the game up to this point considering how complicated it is. At least in my eyes. I do have ideas for the story but I don't have the whole story completed simply because that's a lot of work and this isn't even off the ground yet. A story is cute but does nothing if there is no gameplay.
I will invest literally all my free time helping and learning with anyone on the team. Anytime someone on the team is working on something, I will be there.

I'm curious to know what you mean by this. Do you mean a planetary map via which you can travel to different planets? This is certainly possible, but I should warn you that the game is limited to 8 terrain textures, so your "planets" would have to make do with a limited terrain selection.

Yeah, that's why I said probably. I didn't think it would be possible, but having it all be terrain... I could probably still get it to work.
That limitation could be removed if you made this a multi-map project. Each map doesn't necessarily need to be big, but just be separating it into multiple maps, you can use as many tilesets as you want.
Wouldn't only the first game need to be popular? And the end of each chapter or whatnot direct them to the next map?
No... this can't be. Tactics games allow you to go back to where you were previously. So if I did it that way I'd have to make it incredibly linear. Not my intention.
These types of games seem perfect for SC2l I hope this project goes through. Just keep in mind this will likely take a couple of years to make into a full game. Though these games seem simplistic it's actually quite a bit of work to make them. Best of luck with it.

I think the reason why nobody's volunteered is essentially that you're asking somebody to do all the heavy lifting and simultaneously sacrifice the creative leadership to you, haha.
If they're capable of making this project happen, they may as well do it themselves and do it their way without having to consult you at every turn.
Sorry if the way I'm putting it seems harsh, but I think it might help you. :P If you want to make a project like this happen, you're probably gonna have to learn enough to put the framework together, then get people interested.

also, for the terrain section, if you want to get real crazy you can always use the texture overlay system, just import images of ground textures, or even entire 8 bit maps and texture them to a decal model, then you can use it as ground texture. It's the way people do the 8 bit terrain like in that old zelda project way back when.
Hardest part would be getting grid based movement working properly, and taking into account blockers, heights and whatnot
@MasterWrath: Actually I encourage them to offer creative advice if they want to. I thought I made that clear. I'm just a writer. I have ideas, and if they have ideas, I'd like to see if we can get them to work together. I also said I'd try and learn from them so they don't have to do all the work. I have some experience with the editor, but not in the things I mentioned. I will be doing some work in the editor, but that isn't everything and just so you know, writing a decent story/setting isn't easy :P
@EchoedRequier: Sounds great and yeah that last sentence of yours is actually what inspired me to make this post. Otherwise I'd think I would just do everything else myself :x
I don't want everyone to work hard which is why I'm aiming for several people and not just a couple. Also, mostly a spare time thing.

Turns out Echoed here knows a lot and me and him will be able to do pretty much everything. I would still like to find one more person to involve for various aspects of the game. Echoed had some great ideas and it turns out the work load should not be quite as heavy as I was thinking it would be.
