I am here seeking a few map makers to help with creating a new Desert Strike map. The current one hasnt been updated in months and fans are screaming of a revival. As Bounty puts it, its 'Nexus Wars on Sand'. The objective is simple: 2 teams of 4, consisting of 1 active computer and 3 supporter players, each team must destroy their opponents main fortress structure. The Players decides what units to be produced while the two computers battle it out on the center of the battlefield. This team will consist of different members that have exceptional skills in 1 or 2 of the following aspects below. We will also work on: sharing, discussing and deciding what will be implementing on each of the aspects. This is another attempt to get a DS team going after over a year. I will try my best to be successful.
Desert Strike Revival Team:
Publisher/Director: QueenGambit
Description: I am here to organize a team to save humanity and destroy the Reapers! (wait... wrong universe) I will organize, recruit and possibly send small donations to those that help. I will provide the many ideas on how this map will form and I will encourage map concept debates among the team.
DS Terrainers
Description: They will help create from the basic outlook of the map to designing/adding many small doodads.
DS Trigger-ers / Data-ers
Description: The hard workers and the main driving force of the team. They will be working on the editor and implementing the new ideas we come up as a team. Must be very knowledgeable of the Galaxy Editor. I might consider lending a small donation of $20 to each dedicated map triggerers.
DS Dialogers / UI
Description: *Optional* As the map is being worked on, I would like to utilize a Custom UI. We can work together with coming up with ideas on where to put all the dialogs.
DS Map testers
Description: The many players who will help try out the map, test for bugs and add comments/suggestions.
Possible Ideas:
- more devestating specials that help prevent the map from going to Sudden Death.
- Focused on upgradeing units so that the map will not be a 1000 unit lag fest.
- Offensive and Defensive spell like in my Desert Strike Night map: Players can freeze an opponents income or steal it. They can donate minerals to allies. There can be anti-booms where opponent booms will expectantly not work.
- Possible bank achivement bonuses. Non-advantageous trinkets like different color, chat tag, etc.
- 9 Different Races, inspired by Command and conquer Generals. Each has special unique units as well as limitations.
- Slot Gamble mini game where they can bet their money and have a 20% income bonus.
- 2 or more resources
- many fun easter eggs like the Armegeddon special (as seen from Desert Strike night on sc1)
- Mercenary temporary units that can be called upon once and will only spawn in 1 or 2 waves.
- neutral defensive anti-ground and anti-air structures that can be temporarily powered by a team, cost lots of minerals
- Creative spells such as a sieged infested tank shooting infested rines, A mothership airstrike that emps all mechs in battlefield for 2 waves
- and many more!
Conclusion
I am looking for a few map makers who is interested in making a Desert Strike map. I *was* working on a map but I got busy and so has SquarelyCircle. I will try my best to prioritize my time so that we can working full steam ahead. My only rule: I want love everyone to help and work as a team 100%. The Desert Strike community will be extremely grateful for this new project.
this sound like a really interesting idea, and i woul like to be on it if you think i can be usefull
i really miss special abilities on actual DS and when you spoke about freeze incoming a remembered (hell, how could i forgot?) a version with heros, fog of war, freeze incoming to a single enemy and a lot more
you want to add a lot of options and can be very ambitious, but that is what make it interesting :D
Look, Desert Strike needs an update, and I would love to give it a major overhaul but you are honestly not bringing anything to the table. If I was to get involved, even with my limited data skills, I could actually do everything you require by myself (cause honestly, how hard is it to change the mineral value on a building), so why would I then let you take the credit and publish it?
I designed a UI for Desert Strike near a year ago, cause it was one of the maps I was planning on remaking after I had finished Tofu, it was simple, effective, and did everything you needed to do in DS. Honestly, to do what you want to do you could do it in a day or two, maybe a week most, complete with custom UI.
- i don't like to have one player making the micro for full army. That would be more "builders and fghters" than DS, beside there is a high posibility that players with 0 micro will be stucked on that position, fucking game and finally leaving. i like the actual system of semi-controled abilities.
- shared upgrades would be a nice idea and can give a lot of game, specially with 2 factions of the same race. One example: lets say player1 is "BW zerg faction" and player2 (same team) is "WoL zerg faction". Player1 can upgrade hidralisk movement speed but WoL zerg can't. Since they shared upgrade player 2 will benefit from an upgrade that he couldn't do alone
- defensive special that build defensive structures with time spawn on base or middle. fashion effects like zerg calling a nydus that spawn 5-6 drones that mute into spines or spores automatically, protoss brings warp prisms and invoke cannons, terran call drop capsule, etc

Hi arubaru304,
Thank you for your interest in Desert Strike. You are more than welcome help! Right now I am setting up a separate forum page for the team. I love your ideas, I can tell you played my DS night on SC1.
There is obviously a big misunderstanding DogmaiSEA. Its easy for you hard for me, thats why I am requesting. Map developers like you have the expert skills in making a simple map like this. I am not trying to gain credit, fame or fortune. It should have been clear my role in this: planning and forming a group and try to get a start on this.
Okay so yea you are frustrated, I have dozens of random pm on my email expressing their anger. Broken map not being updated, I dont blame them yet I did not deserve nor earn those email. Like you, they want to see another tug of war map, they want to see an improvement on this, nothing has been happening for months. That is why I am reaching out and posting a thread here.
To those like DogmaiSEA or Nebuli2 who is uninterested, simply dont post on this thread.
im not working on my map in fact i probably won't for a while that being said.... i am interested in beta testing if you want. your desert strike maps from sc1 were great. i liked the setup of it. i hope you'll make it even better than squarely/Turtle/sc1 desert strike. im sorry if i don't remember much about it but i haven't played SC1 for a loooooooooong time. i wish you luck in getting it to work the way you want. you gonna add heroes btw like you did in sc1? that's about all i can remember... desert strike night was your better sc1 map btw it least i thought so.
Hey XenoYoxa, Thanks for replying. Currently I have a bunch of beta testers like you and I am excited to get the core map done so we can start testing and trying out ideas. So far Ive made a few visits to the Desert Strike chat channel in bnet. I gathered a *few* competent players and we briefly discussed:
- What I am trying to achieve with the map idea
- What are some features that I may/may not implement
- Small to big balance issues I will be resolving
Very soon, I will post a comprehensive draft of Desert Strike Broodwar map. from gameplay features and unit stats and tech tree. Again, my focus is for fast pace, top thrill game experience compared to the lame, "ima build a few buildings then wait for Sudden death" matches.
Why is there a sudden outbreak of DS maps where people try to add things?
As a chronic DS player, I can tell you that (in my opinion) adding anything to DS will make the game worse.
The only thing DS needs is features that actually improve the flow of gameplay. Being able to set your unit's starting formation by position by their production building, making an AI that isn't retarded and being able to actually spell.
It sure as hell doesn't need tribes, experience, superpowers or random luck-based free money systems.

Seems to me that every is trying to do the same thing.
the map on live. is not the current project state.
if you go to DS SILO forum. youd know. also recruitment page is nothing todo with your opionon.
ALSO Queen Gambit JOIN Desert STRIKE SILO project. (we share the map) then he announces making a New Desert Strike map. (all on sameday)
as for your page 50 comment... Are you on drugs...? Your clearly not on the Same Page as this TOPIC! Nor same page as any one else. :) DS SILO is on page3 on EU region. that is not the current project file, simply a test map.
Anyway trying to Stay on TOPIC. Reason i got engaged in this Thread was to identify the Back end idea for this Project, and possibly offer my services, But clearly from the 2 SILLY posts below, you do not want to discuss recruitement for this project, and simply youz two want to cause confusion and possibly arguments on a thread. I think this Thread should be closed, before anyone else starts adding more Junk COMENTs,

The dialogs don't do the loading screen justice.
