I play in NA, I am in Central time zone and am available pretty much from 5pm - midnight. Somedays longer some shorter. I use Skype as my main form of communication, and I am the project manager but I REALLY want to assist in everything and not just sit around. The issue with this is that I am drudging through tutorials right now learning at least the basics of terrain and triggers, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to start to get a team right away. The main role I need filled is someone to work with data and triggers, or two people. Then as a secondary we need someone to make a nice atmospheric map for it to be played on (I already tried and I guess I don't have the "touch" for something like this cause it was pretty bad but I will keep playing around maybe I can give you something to work with in the end hah).
What we have done up to this point is little to nothing on the actual map itself, I am still trying to document EXACTLY how things need to be setup so that there are as few bugs as possible and we won't have to tear it all down and build it up again because of poor planning. However my artist has got to work on a few nice images and is setting up a website right now. Here are some of the images:
The project page can be found here. However I will take the time to explain here what EXACTLY we are trying to do and how it came to be. I love playing Mafia on SC2, me and my friends will play it for hours and laugh about some of the crazy things that happen. This game is basically a board game, adapted to a digital format and given a little bit of pizzaz! I love the Settlers of Catan in this same way, every other weekend I will get some friends together and we will play it until dawn. All of that put together I thought to myself... How cool would it be if I could play Catan on starcraft with my friends over starcraft while converting everything into starcraft terms.
How Much Time Do I Invest In a Week?
Well I can sink about 10-20 hours a week, depending on progress. If it was possible to get it done in a week I would put all my free time into it. If it will take a while anyways, then lets not get burnt out on it.

Yes I do realize I am like the 6th? Or later with this idea, but none of them SEEM to have taken off or died out... I hope this one doesn't but eh I can see this being a difficult project as NO PART of the galaxy editor seems friendly with hex tiles. But there is a way... there is always a way.
Please do ask me on here or shoot me a message on Skype. My name is Dangazzm on there, just say you found me through SC2Mapster so I know to approve you. I get a lot of spam on there for some reason...
This is my first attempt at assembling something and I am trying to do all I can but it doesn't feel like enough... if you feel like I should know something or do something more/else just let me know. I don't know how these things usually work, and every other project seems to have a lot more done when they post here than me... but I figured some fans of the Settlers of Catan would love to hop on board for this.
What I did so far was used Hexes put them at the proper angle and made points, these points took a while to get JUST right. Then I have it spawn the hexes and resources in a circular motion, which looks awesome IMO hah. Thought it still aint really pretty, it is progress.
Hey I just wanna say this is a really cool project, Settlers of Catan is an amazing game that deserves to be known more.
I like how some people are willing to make ports of well-known games and it's great how it's actually possible now with the editor, just like the Mafia map that some other guy made. You probably have tried it already, there's an official Javascript version of the game available, I think they really nailed the whole trading interface with a very convenient approach, this is probably the most complicated aspect of the project.
I'm terrible with the Galaxy Editor, but I do realy like this project! Friends of mine are playing the Settlers of Catan and with a SC2 custom game that works the same, I might get em to play SC2 :P
I would love to help, but I have no idea how. I've been looking to read some tutorials for the SC2 Editor, but that will certainly not make me advanced enough to pull of something like this.
Hopefully, you'll game the custom game as simple as the Settlers of Catan, just a one-on-one copy of the original board game.

You could try use circles to simulate the hexes. (Have the circles arranged based on the angles of a hex.)
I've played Catan before and hope you succeed in this. Good luck! I'd help but I have my own personal project I'd prefer to work on :)

You should only need 1 point, and then be able to math-hex the rest out.
