Me and a friend are having an argument about whether it is best to watch star wars episodes 1, 2 and 3 before 4, 5 and 6 or 4, 5 and 6 before 1, 2 and 3. Canonically, it makes sense to watch 123-456, but the 2 trilogies are set so far apart you don't need to watch them 123-456 to understand everything! And 456 are the better episodes, you don't want to get bored in episode 2 and not watch the rest. What do you lot think the best order is?
Watch the clone wars first then the original trilogy. It goes in that order anyway. Of course the clone wars looks much nicer as it is much newer. I saw the trilogy first though. It doesn't matter that much but I would see them in the order in which they supposedly happen.
I would go for canonical order of events. Some references or effects (father! blabla...) may be lost to a new watcher but ultimately it's about the Rise and Fall of the Empire, not the other way around.
The one big thing that sucks about prequels is that you already know what's going to happen.
The very first time you watch star wars is HAS TO BE 4 - 5 - 6 - 1 - 2 - 3 , because I think you will never get that special access to the epic tale when starting with the new producitons. I like the new ones, but when you watch it for the very first time, start with the old trilogiy... and even better, play jedi knight 1-3 after that and THEN start watching the new ones :D
1,2,3, is not a prequel! Its what happens before 4,5, and 6 but it was released after. The whole series was planed to come out in the order it did from the start therefore it isn't a prequel. Just watch them the way they happen.
did you see the original 4 5 6? ... the ones without the shitty extra special effects.. ?
maybe i'm too old and reactionary (probably ;) ), but watching the 3 real star wars movie (4 5 and 6) is an awesome experience, one that i can do over and over (every 3/4 years granted :) ) ... while the 1 2 3 experience worked only the first time (and that's totally fine too, just not on par at all)... it had everything going for it .. and turned out to be much less than i would have hoped for :(
so i'd honestly say:
watch 4 5 6 (particularly the regular edition) or 1 2 3 but if u do 1 2 3 4 5 6 ... you are in for a sour experience... (on that particular issue (which he always claimed was his principal goal) georges lucas failed in my book...)
ps: not to mention 4 5 6 = 4h30, so doable and enjoyable / 1 2 3 = 6h30 or so, not as enjoyable without speeding ahead
ps2: yeah, i always fast forward the ewoks too ;^ p
I always just watch 4-5-6 and pretend that 1-2-3 were never even created. especially 3 since the last several minutes of that film effectively destroy the badass image of one of histories greatest villains.

no, if it was designed to come first originally then it isn't. It's just the series was released backwards. At least to me a prequel is like "o hey, that movie was awesome! What happened before it so we can make even more money?!" I think the entire 6 episodes were planed from the start.
It has nothing to do about intent and rather a fact. As it mentions "Work W is a prequel to work Y, if W's storyline precedes Y's, yet W was released later than Y."

I would either watch them in canonical order, or just skip 1-2-3.
