Hey guys, I wanted to ask you all something. If a new Warcraft RTS came out, would you want it to follow WoW lore, or continue from Warcraft III's The Frozen Throne?
If you don't care about WoW, this may not interest you. Anyway please discuss! thanks!
I really think the WC3 TFT Lore did not transfer well into WoW(i.e. Muradin still being alive but dead in TFT). I would really like them to start over from WC3. It's almost like they go on their own trail in WoW. Like, whatever really works? WoW really just seems like a dumbed down version of the WC3 Lore
You all seem to be forgetting that Blizzard revamped the Warcraft 2 story when they created Warcraft 3. Orcs were made into good guys instead of a rampaging horde. Completely new characters were introduced: Arthas, Illidan, Malfurion, Thrall, what makes you think they can't do it again?
Your beloved Warcraft 3 did exactly the same thing as the despised WoW! A whole new story and characters in a new installment of a game series? HOW DARE THEY!
I wouldn't want it to start from WC3 TFT based on the fact that it would mean that the entire X amount of years WoW will have been around would have been for nothing.
What's the point of developing a story for a decade if it was all a non-canon spinoff, that would just be lame and insulting to Warcraft fans. In my opinion.

Well, the fact of the matter is Warcraft 4 will follow lore after WoW;p. Anyone hoping for a Warcraft 3 TFT continuation will be sadly disappointed, as thats just not going to happen. Blizzard would never do that.
Personally Im with Zarakk on this. I too would prefer the lore following from WoW. It just makes better design sense, and will give the game a fresh start and direction.
They probably already have it all roughly planned out even now(Next two WoW expansions, Warcraft 4 base story ideas/lore).
Never played wow but I sure would like to see how lich king begins his journey!!!
That's Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne.
I didn't see any destroyed lore in WoW at all, just a bunch of little kids bitching about how Blizzard makes their games when they really have no clue.
@Blackveiled: Go In that case, you didn't even closely take a look at the story since WoW came out. Basically, they retconned everything they could get their hands on, to fit their expansions ... because MOAR MONEY.
It's a sad day in hell when Draenei suddenly crash into Azeroth with a friggin' spaceship, just because the Alliance needs another Capital City at the ass of the world or Death Knights become commonplace, because that Class was best fitting the Lichking Expansion...
They even did the same shit as they did with the Zerg "Oh the Scourge isn't evil, Arthas is just holding them back, blablabla" - not to mention since Chris Metzen is doing all the stuff, we probably will see more parallels like Dark Voice -> Sargeras, Lichking -> Kerrigan, etc in the future of Blizz Franchises.

Good god, could it be that Blizzard is actually developing and deepening out lore instead of making characters flat out evil and ending it there? I always brush off complaints about WoW lore due to the simple fact that it's exactly the same thing as ALL people who write lore have done in a legion of previous games and books. I mean seriously - I'm not one of those people that usually says "Well if you complain about it, come up with a better idea!", but in this case that really applies - I dare you to come up with something that would be more interesting. You can't. And if you can, it's already been done in a different area of the game.
You're saying it like Warcraft was a pristine, unique snowflake before that horrible WoW showed up and smushed it with it's boot. Warcraft 3 was happily borrowing ideas from Starcraft. The Undead have the same "creep" mechanic as Zerg and the "build and forget" mechanic of the Protoss. Night Elves had buildings that could move, just like Terrans. On the lore side: Sylvanas was a copy of Kerrigan - turned into the thing she was fighting and becoming a total bitch.
As far as I know Kerrigan wasn't holding the Zerg back in any way. What Blizzard did to the Zerg is the same thing they did to Orcs in.. wait for it... WARCRAFT 3! Orcs/Zerg were manipulated by some dark power that wanted to use them as tools of destruction, blah blah. Thrall/Kerrigan is the savior who will lead them into a new era.
Go back to 16,000 years ago, to the wars between aqir (insectoid humanoids) and trolls. Back when the centaur weren't nomadic and when (wait for it) elves didn't exist.

@Terminator8: Go
Start over from WC3 TFT.
WoW lore is horrible. Not to mention they seem to kill off every main character you actually played as in WC3/TFT.
@Xenostalker: Go
Agreed. It does kind of seem like they used a bit of Warcraft lore in WoW, but overall tried to start over with a completely new story.

hmm this is the exact opposite reaction I got from MMO Champion. Interesting.
@Terminator8: Go
Not really. You were on a MMO site of course the majority would like the lore for an MMO.

A "bit" of warcraft lore? Every WoW expansion has been centered around a character from previous Warcraft games!
Every main character? Hyperbole much?
@Tolkfan: Go
You forgot Cenarius ;D...
In my opinion, WarCraft's next 'serial' should use the Lore starting from the latest installment of WoW. That would be logically, in my mind.

This post makes me want a +1 button. Well said :)

You forgot another borrowed concept. Night Elf workers were destroyed when they made buildings.
Warcraft: Origins.

We could make a SC2 mod if someone wanted to make a shitload of models and triggers and everything xDDD.
