i have to say i never played n64's mario kart but the wii's is fun. lol it took a while to get good at it. Rainbow Road ftw! lol. mirrored is hard though.
Mario Kart 64 was the best, then it was topped by Double Dash, then by Mario Kart DS. Since then I haven't seen a mario kart that had the mario kart feel. The newer wii games up their graphics but makes everything feel slightly more sluggish compared to before. Double Dash was the best with baby park and 8 laps.
There are no stupid questions. Also QueenGambit said that Photon Cylces didn't remind her/him(I'm assuming her which is why I put it first but still it's the internet) of the Tron light cycles but more of Mario Kart.
With the reasoning explained then the question it's a valid question.
I loved the original Mario Kart; it's probably the only racing game I enjoyed because it wasn't srs bsns. The powerups provided some good orthogonality of gameplay, allowing for less than perfect drivers to make a comeback with a well aimed koopa shell. Brief turbo boosts added a bit more orthogonality, and the different tracks gave the gameplay plenty of variety.
Photon Cycles doesn't currently offer much in the way of orthogonality; you control your direction and can boost. But it's perhaps comparable to Mario Kart in the spirit of the gameplay, where it's both competitive and doesn't take itself seriously and so doesn't expect the players to take it seriously. You would play Mario Kart with groups of friends, celebrating and mocking one another's misfortune in good humor, and I think the same is usually true of Photon Cycle matches. Both games encourage a kind of social dynamic that makes light of failure, makes it something everyone can laugh along with, and that helps temper the intensity of sentiment that often develops around competitive skill-oriented gameplay.
Photon Cycles on Starcraft 2 is an amazing map. It reminds me of (not tron because i was a baby when that came out) Mariokart!
What do you guys prefer, Photon Cycles or Mario Kart?
cycles is the only tron like worth a spit
too bad jade is such an overachiever...
mariokart was the bomb on n64 (not sure it's been topped since)
but its more of an "everyone in the same room to have fun" game, no?
while cycles can be done on your own
