I've seen people design touch screens for use with sc2 and they always seem really slow. Then there's starfront for the iphone/ipad but I just don't like it for some reason, the controls feel off. Just wondering what controls would you think would work good on a touch screen for an RTS.
Awww, don't make it iPad exclusive. I don't have an iPad and I'd still buy it lol.
Anyway, I'd recommend using a similar control scheme to StarFront. I've yet to see a better system on iOS. Maybe try to make some small variations and see how it is in testing.
I could never get into starfront. It's controls felt off. The reason I say ipad exclusive is because the screen is big enough to actually operate with fast controls compared to an iphone. With what I'm thinking it might be a lot faster paced game than starfront or at least what I've played of it.
Just bought starfront for $0.99. I played a skirmish and it was ok but still not as fun as it could have been. Like the select could be one finger drag and pan camera could be three finger drag and zoom could be two finger pinch. Attack move could be two finger tap while selecting units and buildings could be just finger tap. Hold position and that other stuff can be buttons like they have it. I was thinking for any building bringing up a command bar, unless it's a defensive structure like a photon cannon or creep tumor or spine crawler.

That AF joke for SC2 on Wii looked pretty good. Someone go dig it up.

Wasn't it on Kinect?

Yes it was, now can we answer my question? As I'm working on rts controls for an iOS title, most likely ipad exclusive.

Starfront's controls were fine, though.
I'll go with my control ideas-
I would help you if I knew UDK :(

You said it was too scary or something. If you take the time to learn by playing around in the levels already there and create stuff it'll be easy.
