So I updated my drivers because I wanted to play BF3 beta. I do that and then I notice aero is turned off after the restart. So I see what the problem is and I get this error.
Problems found: color depth is set too low not fixed
desktop window manager is disabled detected
I don't know how to fix those two things and it wouldn't be so bad if the editor, udk, and a couple other programs weren't affected. When I open any of those programs they start loading up and then it's like they freeze and whatever is on the screen is taking up the space of the wind. This makes them unusable and basically ruins any plans I had at making a map or game in sc2 or udk. Some help fixing this would be nice.
I've tried restoring and deleting the previous drivers and that didn't work. I've tried rolling back also and nothing works. For some reason when I restored sc2 patch got messed up so I had to reinstall and now the restores are all gone.
Starcraft gave me a driver error and crashed once today as well. And I didn't change anything. Huh, Now it's working fine but.... Coincidence? I think not!

Thanks to you, I don't feel alone anymore... SC2 on my computer keeps crashing since 1.4 is out, often with a BSOD. It took me like 3 or 4 days to be able to record my latest video of gameplay, just because I can't play SC2 and record at the same time without my computer/game/display drivers crashing! I even had to reinstall Windows entirely because I thought it was a virus messing with my drivers... Well, it wasn't... though now it seems to be a little it better.
If you can Keyes, I'd recommend doing a fresh install of your system, getting ALL your drivers up to date (even USB drivers and such), and also make sure your video card is still 100% working. This kind of bug happened to me a few years ago before I had to buy a new card, though it's a bit different because it was literally dying from being too old (Crysis 1 - Graphics card 0). Getting the latest drivers for your card is not always the solution.
Anyway, if even Aero doesn't work properly, it looks like your card, or system, is in pretty bad shape... I'd really recommend reinstalling your system to check first. Try other games as well, because there might be a leak of some sort in the latest patches from SC2. I personally can play Minecraft all day long without any problem, but I can't play SC2 more than 30 minutes without a crash. Bulletstorm works like a charm too...
The problem wasn't started because of starcraft. That was just an irrelevant problem from doing a restore that probably confused the patches for sc2. Playing games works fine it's just programs like editors; UDK, sc2 editor, 3ds max, unrealfrontend(one of the more important programs for making a game). I can't do fresh install now as I need my computer until the weekend for school stuff and I've been trying to fix this problem so the school work has been building up.
EDIT: Sorry forgot the n't for wasn't.
Also the video card is maybe a month or two old. There are differences between a card dying and video drivers screwing things up. I know the difference because my last card started dying on me. Why does everyone always go to faulty hardware so quick?
Well, after 1.4 my computer crashed when i tried to play sc. But then after it happenend 4 more times, i decieded to reinstall. My problem is, now the game cannot load any patches of any description. It literally goes to 31% and then stops progress. I cannot luanch the game. Any help at all?
Sounds to me like your editor is open. When starcraft 2 files are opened, you cannot patch the game. Perhaps something sc-related is running in the background? Try restarting your CPU.
I posted t his in off topic because it's unrelated to any starcraft problems. I was just giving extra description as to what happened when I did a restore. Two things happened, starcraft 2 couldn't patch back up and my restores disappeared, the previous ones before the one I used.

Well... Since you updated/rolled back your drivers and it didn't make it better, you have to assume the problem goes deeper than just a driver issue... The only reason I can see is a faulty hardware, either your graphics card or anything else... Might as well be your RAM or MB, who knows... What I know for sure is that BSODs are to be taken seriously, as they are quite often a matter of faulty hardware and/or incompatibility issues with your OS.
If you have issues with highly-demanding programs (3D utilities, game editors and such), it gives my opinion even more credits. You probably have some compatibility issue somewhere that only gets triggered when your PC is pushed to its limits. The RAM is often faulty in these cases, maybe it's not dying but it can still be in conflict with something else coming from your new graphics card.
Might be worth a shot to try cleaning your registry from any old drivers you may still have, they may be in conflict with the ones from your new card.
All these problems occurred after the driver update. Everything was fine before then. Also it's Windows 7 so I'm assuming Microsoft backwards way of setting up things probably screwed with the drivers. This happened with some network drivers before also on Windows Vista. I've just come to assume that Windows likes to screw with drivers whenever it can. Also my problem was never a BSOD. I just said it crashed as in crashed to desktop. Your problem can be faulty hardware because of the BSOD but I haven't had one so ya can't be my problem.

lots can happen in 2 months. If you've uninstalled the drivers and installed them again to an earlier version; or rolled back; and the same thing still happens. it might be a hardware thing. Especially since ur not getting any BSODs, i would say its a hardware thing; BSODs are for driver erros, correct me if im wrong.
I would suspect the RAM, try reseating them and also testing each stick independently and see if the problem persists if a certain stick is plugged in.
I dont think its the video card since it seems u can play SC2 just fine. plus video cards are expensive too =P Although if you have a spare i would suggest to test that and see if it works.
as usual, disable 3D, and those SLI or double video card things off (if you have 2 vid cards of course) as i see often those are the source of certain crashing problems.
To get the editor to work you need last years driver for ati. dont know bout nvidia.
This is one i use: 10-6_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_enu

Well this was like a week ago I installed these drivers. SC2 works fine after the reinstall but the editor still doesn't work.
