I finally decided to look up what Windows 8 looks like and the design decisions... and I can say that I'm kind of worried. It seems like Microsoft is following RIM in the 'copy Apple' mentality rather than innovating critically to what their base needs. I'm making sweeping comments here, but it's just my initial thoughts after watching this:
For me personally, I don't really want that layer of stuff over the old windows desktop. Granted you can probably just turn it off easily and go back to the classic style.
From the other stuff I read though it appears to be faster at booting, overall smoother, and of course more secure.
What do you guys think of it? (Since I assume most of us here are power users or advanced...)
It looks like they're turning my computer into an iPhone. . . eww. . .
That is exactly what one of my friends sad yesterday. He installed the dev version on his PC because he was curous. Turned out he coudn't find a way to shut down his PC except with the task manager ..... I cound't believe that, but after seeing this video... Starting at 3:06 you can see that the "normal" old desktop still exists so one might think: "Just click on the start button and select shut down." That's what he tried. Turned out clicking on the start button brings you back to this stupid mobile phone interface.
Good thing you dont have to get newest windows always...maybe they make it right next time with windows 9 or 10
Yeah, why would one buy a new windows every 2 1/2 year anyway? I can't see a single reason why I would want to buy Windows8. From what I just saw the UI is full of junk that I don't need.
Anyway; 10 bucks they completely rearrange the control panel options AGAIN, so that it becomes even harder to find solutions to simple problems by following online help ("Go to control panel > System and Security .... oh wait, that only exists in 7, in Vista it's split up into two groups, so wtf do I go now?).
I thought they were just using that design for their ipad "killers." Man I thought firefox made bad moves with design choices. Windows 8 made sense like that on a tablet, not on a damn PC.

utter rubbish
why the hell would anyone want to have a start screen like that.
Its annoying enough on my phone.
If push comes to shove, win 8 might be the reason I switch to mac or linux.

Windows 98 was the best imo ;x
Change for the sake of change... meh :/

Isn't that Microsoft's nomer, though?

I'm still stuck with vista.... I just want 7.... lol

You know there has always been a cycle of windows version, 1 sucks and 1 good, 95 -> 98 -> ME -> XP -> Vista -> 7 ....
I will wait for the one after 8

Hahaha good point.
Well, I'm thinking of getting a new PC soon so I better get it while I can still have Windows 7 on it.
Also: Yeah Microsoft stop messing with control panel haha.
