this is the unit model I"m trying to import into a map to test it.
I've look at dr evil tutorial about texture and yeah it's not helping.
I need like a step by step because the interface for SC2 edit changed a bit and looks nothing like the pic.
I got the model in, but don't know how to apply the texture onto it

- Open the Import Tab ( F9 )
- Open the Import Files Menu ( Ctrl+i )
- Click Browse
- Select the Folder where you unzipped the file ( Dark_Archon_BW, the second folder that contains the m3 files and the Assets folder )
- All Items should be selected, Import items
- Textures should be in the Assets\Textures Folder, m3 in the root (see attached file)
- SAVE your map, Close the editor completely, and restart
Thanks that was a lot simpler than I was making it to be. Any chance you can gives steps like these to changing texture since the previewer is different than in Dr.evil tutorial?
Just press shift+D while having the model selected in the previewer to get a window with the more detailed info on it (Which includes texture names). If you know what the texture you want to replace is called already, you don't need the previewer.
I tried that, when I press Shift + D a window pop up. but it's blank. and I can't select anything in the window
But back to the Dark Archon, How do I change the merge model in actor? the dark archon download came with a merge model but I don't know how to switch it in with my Archon. When I merge Dark archon, the old Archon (blue) Merge still appears. Can't find the place where I switch the Archon Merge Models

Yes, the steps are almost exactly the same. The main thing you have to look at is the name of the texture you want to replace.
- Change the name of the New texture to the EXACT name of the texture you want to replace
Most models default texture name is *Modelname*_Diffuse.dds (example: the zergling default is Zergling_Diffuse.dds)
you can also find the information in the editor:
- Open up unit in Cut Scene Editor
- Goto Window > Model Data ( Shift+D )
- Scroll Down to the Materials Folder
- Open the Import Tab ( F9 )
- Open the Import Files Menu ( Ctrl+i )
- Click Browse
- Select the Folder your new texture is located in and click OK
- ( In the Import Files Menu ) In the Import Path dialog box type "Assets\Textures" (capitalization is important)
- Make sure your new texture is Checked
- Import, Save, Close and Reopen the Editor
Your new texture is now the default, you can only use the old texture by removing the new one from the import tab
The "Select Texture By ID" Method from Dr.Evils tutorial allows you to use both the old and the new textures.
But back to the Dark Archon, How do I change the merge model in actor?
- Open the Data Editor ( F7 )
- Open the Models Tab: Click the "+" Choose Art and Sound Data > Models
- type in Archon into the search
- You should see a ArchonMerge and ArchonMergeLow
- In the Art:Model field of each, replace it with the new model
thankyou very helpful. but the problem is I've made a new unit, like I want to keep the Archon and Have dark archon at the same time. I've created a ability exactly like merge archon and gave the ability to Dark templars. I know changing the "merge archon" model original will change the archon one. I've made a model file for "merge dark archon" I don't know how to attach it to my Dark archon though.
I guess what i'm asking is, where is the "merge archon" attached to the regular Archons

textures should be shown on the model now.

I believe its done in the Actor, but im not sure. I specialize mainly in art aspects.
I would recommend asking in the Data Forum http://www.sc2mapster.com/forums/development/data/
