EDIT> For clarification; I think it is a pretty shit situation asking for donations for a project before it is released as the majority of projects fall through.
Asking for donations while providing no information at all except for a livestream is just a rip off. And even worse probably against the copyright law because he probably used all the Blizzard Assets from other games than SC2.
Whats wrong with asking for donations? YOU DONT HAVE TO DO IT
and people wont donate just for anything. weird thread....
rip off? If people want to help guy who does mapping for free. I see no wrong with it.
Just because you don't have to do something doesn't mean its not a rip off.
And asking for money and creating hopes for something which you don't provide ANY written information for and which is probably 10% done and probably has a 90% of getting cancelled before completion is for me personally a rip off.
If you don't see it that way its fine :) You don't have to share my views.
edit:
I think I was pretty unspecific about what makes me mad about this. Its not that he is trying to get donations. Its that he is trying to get it on top of the back of another game that he has no copyright of whatsoever and for a project that isn't even playable (although it could very well be because of the design of the Galaxy Editor, in contrast to for example kickstarter, where many projects only have concepts and idea and nothing presentable because they don't use other people's copyrights) and on the background of many people having the desire for a "new" D2 because they are disappointed by D3.
edit2:
That said there is of course the possibility that I'm doing the project unjustice and that it is all genuine and will be finished in a reasonable time (which changes nothing about the crappy information and the unprofessional thread) and is authorized/accepted by Blizzard.
I'm not a lawyer nor do I know a thing about copyright law but I think you ain't breaking it with donation plead. Are you? Sure you would have to say that money go for website maintenance or w/e but...
Please enlighten me
Edit: I agree that asking for donations before project is finished is somewhat... out of place

Yeah "law" was a bit exaggerated. I don't see anything happening there and at worst he will get problems with the Blizzard Terms of Use if they care. But doubt that will happen.
To be honest I already regret having posted anything into this thread. Bad mistake.
It is more like he is using the bandwagon of bad publicity from Diablo III and coercing players into believing he will offer a better solution to the current situation (eg - Diablo II gameplay in a Blizzard 3D Engine). This is bad - because not only does he apparently lack the skills to do this (from what we have seen so far), these types of projects are massive in undertaking and usually end up being scrapped.
Look at Tofu, we honestly thought we would be finished a year ago and here we are, at the 2 year mark only now anywhere close to being done - and even then, Dry and I have both burnt ourselves out numerous times we have had to take breaks from the work. If you guys had donated say a year and a half ago to the project, how would you be treating us right now? What if we said we had enough and just called it quits. + Profit.
The first few weeks (even months) of mod development is fun, by the time you get to the hard, repetitive shit, the endless polishing, a project can stay in limbo for eternity. Thus, if you are doing it for free then do it for free, offer people the opportunity to donate after the project is released (do not ASK for donations BEFORE you basically even do jack shit).
I have to admit the guy is a SoaFB. Asking for donations at this stage is sleazy at best. If you look at the development history there is no reason to believe this will ever be finished.
Minercraft. Now I get that you mean "finished" as in playable for most but... Minecraft was really bare bones back when Notch started to ask money to finish it.
Still yeah. Donating for that guy who does supposed project without any solid proof of a experienced team or the solo mapper is like a fool's errand.
Do you seriosly think people will even donate to this? I seriosly doubt it....
Tofu...rofl...Its like duke nukem forever (takes ages to make and sucks when it comes out)
Says the little finnish fail troll who has never done anything with the editor and instead spends all day posting on a near completely empty forum and thinks that is an awesome way to spend his time. GGNORE, I win by default mate.
Instead Iv actually had 3 maps published on bnet :)
actually might be even more...atleast I got more stuff that is playable, but havent released them cause Im not happy with it.
but we all know instead of actually getting stuff done you like to talk about tofu in 80% of your posts, which I have to admid gets anoying. You could try to actually release the map or stop talking about it.
Why cant you even get your facts straight. My comment was ment to be insult cause you are so anoying. And it doesnt help that you wont even get your facts straight.
I wish you could prove me wrong by releasing tofu and making it to be awesome map...but you cannot...haha!
edit* If you stop posting about tofu in every freaking thread, Ill leave you alone. I wish you will learn something from this conversation.

OKAY LETS GET THIS STRAIT!!!!, TOFU SUCKS, and ZENX1's Projects suck... MINI CHOP FARMS RAPES THEM BOTH!!! WITH A ROLL OF QUARTERS!!!
Lawl, But seriously we all know Dogmai has a huge boner for tofu... we know this... and while the name sucks, I dont know how the map itself is, so my opinion on that is Irrelevant(Though if its about the Tofu Food, then it sucks and I will burn it to a CD just so I can set it on fire).
LAWL
And there is nothing wrong with taking donations for a project, lol, As long as he intends on actually finishing it.... otherwise it is a scam, and illegal too.
Yes I know its lame to ask for money before the project is out, but that doesnt mean its wrong.
And no more fighting children, There are so few mappers left as it is.
At least if you released TOFU 2 years ago whence you first told me about it you could at least have long gotten over the fact it sunk to page 86 like every other great map.
@Topic:
I don't like donations for something that is not playable for the people that have the possibility to donate.
I'm not confident in the timeframe he set himself with a release within this year.
But still that is the decision of the battle.net guys. They throw their money around, not yours.
If he makes a terrible map, these people might be angry. :D
I think my project is coming closer to D2 than his map feature wise as I will add sockets & gems to my map in near future.
@DogmaiSEA
We have seen like nothing about TOFU for... a year or longer.
Atm, it is only a map that you glorify without showing the world.
Some updates might help us to believe in your map. Also, what the heck could you be working on the past year? =/
Will you surprise everyone with 20+ of fleshed out heroes?
Zenx, however, likes to show what he is doing and I think that is refreshing. It motivates myself to continue mapping on my own map.
I saw his new card game map and I like the features implemented in that map.
I predict Tofu will never be released, that shortly before some release date Dogmai will somehow end up reformatting his HD or have some other issue. This won't change how Dogmai is though, why a reformat would be the best thing for him even. With that he could gloat about how his map did this better, or that better, and never have to back anything up.
It is fine if you aren't ready to release yet Dogmai, but most big talkers are you know, successful first? I do totally understand timelines getting pushed back, as my project has taken me far longer than I thought it would, I'm pushing really hard just to get a fricking alpha out before the summer is over. We all understand this, I just don't in particular understand how one can talk so big with a list of accomplishments length 1, and that is just from the null char.

Any videos to the project?
