Stream is over. But you can still watch the recording here
Hey everybody! Today is Wednesday, and that means it's time for another Newbie Wednesday. This time around, I will be showing how to build the different parts that make up a true hero. And not the starcraft kind of hero that's just a beefed up normal unit; I'm talking good old wc3 heroes, complete with levels, learn-able abilities, stat bonuses, and respawning. You will leran how to:
Build the actual hero unit
Create a level up system
Create passive stat bonuses like strength, agility, and vitality.
Create abilities with multiple levels
Create an 'ultimate' ability that requires a high level to be learned
Create a respawn system using simple triggers that remembers hero stats, level, and abilities
And as always, there will be an open Q & A at the end.
Please go to this page and post what topics you would like to hear in the future. I want to stream content that is actually beneficial and interesting for the community, but I can't do that unless you guys tell me what you want to hear.
You can also head over here and download a simple version of the map I will be making.
Well my last stream covered how to make abilities with animations and whatnot. This time it's more about the hero-focused elements. So I'll be taking blink and giving it multiple levels, as well as making a simple ability that damages the target. This one will be the "Ultimate" ability, where you have to be at least level 6 to learn it. I will probably make more abilities if I finish everything and there are no questions.
edit- saw your suggestion on the project page, thanks a bunch. I was actually thinking about going over how to import and use WoW models, but I'm not sure yet.. I don't know if that would fill up an hour. It's pretty much just import textures, restart, import model, set an actor model to the imported model.
Yeah. All of the streams from sc2streamster (not just Newbie Wednesday) are available on demand at the channel page. Its the same place as the live stream. If somebody is live, you will see that stream there. If not, there will be a recording playing automatically. But you can pick a specific recording to watch below the big window, where it says " Latest Videos".

Feel free to Send me a PM if you have any questions/concerns!
Last time I made a few abilties. I made on where the unit (zealot) plays the slash animation when he uses it. The other one makes the zealot dance, and the final one was like a psi storm. So it had a lightning effect that showed up.

On the flipside, that means that other streams like the Terraining Tuesday and Mapcraft will start at reasonable times for you. On another note, I guess you're always free to PM show hosts with any questions you may have left.
What about creating a official 'Streamster' thread with a 'template' so people can fill in a question ? Then make 10mins in it's episode to answer certain needs ?
It would add more value and interactivity to the shows without much trouble right ? :)
I'm willing to set it up. I like the idea of asking questions in advance. It lets us plan our time better. Right now I've just been taking questions right out of the live chat, but... It's a good idea. Speaking of questions.... Until moz gets that set up, if you have one but won't be able to watch the show live, feel free to just post it here or send me a PM.
Yeah I agree, sounds like a great idea. Then we can limit the awkward silence when I ask if there are any questions and it takes a minute for the viewers to actually hear me lol
It might be best if people just post questions into the respective "tonight on sc2streamster" threads. And we could check them right before the stream. That's probably what I'll do this time. Like I said earlier, post any questions you have here if you won't be able to make it to the live broadcast. I'll still take questions live though.
Newbie Wednesday #3
Making Warcraft 3 Heroes

Are you going to go over just giving a spell levels or animate them too?

Are you saving these videos anywhere? I'd like to watch it life, but how about the abillities? Can i watch that video elsewhere?

Maybe you could try to fit it in to this cast tonight. I missed the last cast, I should go watch it if you already went over animations.

I kinda hate it that its 5 Am here when the stream starts. It's fine I can watch the stream after but I can't ask questions if I need to =3.

The pm's might be an idea. 2nd I kinda know how Terrain =3. Data editing and some Triggers are the only problem.

Not a bad idea at all. Unless someone else wants to set this up, I'll get around to it soon...

Stream goes live 6 hours from this post
Show starts in about 1 and a half hours!
