This is the first map that I'm close to start proper testing on, and before I start asking people if they wanna help me test it out I wanted to hear some of the more experienced mappers how they manage? I was thinking I'd just make a post here on the recruitment subforum where I would describe the map and how many people I need. In return I'd not really offer anything (since I don't have anything) I could do a -thank you- list (which I was planning on doing) where the testers etc. could have their name written if they wanted it and of course their suggestions regarding map changes would be taken into consideration. Got any hints?
I haven't tested, created and loved maps/mapping like this since CS 1.5 xD
But it was easier back then because I knew people :)
- Playable, at least to the point that it wont bore your tester out. Best if it is fun already. This is most important. If you dont want polish, remove anything that can cause lag for other.
- Added a function to restart without going out and host it again (this is extra work since it wont be for release but needed)
- Be relatively bug free. Iron out all bugs you can find in local testing
From personal experience: Ensure you can at least load the map through battle net's lobby and have it start up with the values (players and positions) as you want them before calling in others to try it out. Nothing more frustrating then getting a map all set within the editor only to then spend several hours wrestling with the header's information to ensure its the same experience on battle as it was in the editor.
Obviously it depends on the project, but as a general rule of thumb, I tend to say that a beta is released when a map seems perfect to the owner. When you've played it a couple of times and can't find any more bugs, that's when you hand it out for online playtesting. Because beta testers will find you at least ten things to fix.
Ill help you test it if you want? lol ive been working on a map myself that will need to be tested soon, and i know how much of a pain in the ass it is to find ppl to help you out lol.
