The popularity system is also very "guided" by "angry pro editors". Think about it.... Noobs cant ask for help, and finding the answer has been proven to be somewhat diffcult. Seriously, you'd think that after all this time of the fiddling with the editor and the noobs it has chewed and spit out, all questiones would have been publicly addressed. Nope!
Sadly, the way to make an overmind (hardly original at all!) to function as the next building above the Hive is not at all common?? am I the only one who thought of this?? i think not and many other stupid little questions i remember pissing my pants about... pylon power field range?? lol anyway they arent common enough I guess... so those that know the answers will make great maps and unfortunately some do have an attitude. those with the attitude are the ones that divide the sharks from the fish.. and if u follow the metaphor fish are the ones with all the color.. potential uniqueness.
First... I've had nothing but help from the so called "Pros" they have helped me immensely.
Second making the overmind function as the next building... Thats one ability you have to make... MORPH Overmind, add the button, there is tutorials on making abilities and making them functional, Thats a question for newbie wednesday. map editing takes months-years not hours to weeks
@OneTwoSC the way to fix that problem is google your question put SC2 on the end and 80% of the time it pops up mapster and a good result
Also im sure YOU are aware, but im posting this for that other guy
Under the tutorials section there is a List of tutorials post. GO THERE...
Im sorry but this whole Thread seems more like trolling...
also
GO TO THE IRC CHANNEL WHEN ASKING FOR HELP!!!!!!...
There are a few people who Hang out there who help people constantly.
lol who made you the "trolling judge"? As far as you know this thread may be bs but it is my attempt at letting it be known to remember the help you had and pass it on. Your barrels... yea thats trolling. queens gone wild?? you could be into that sort of thing but what I'm talking about pertains to the way pros treat noobs and you've just become a prime example. You think that what I have to say is pointless or garbage, well I can say that by the amount of posts there are a lot more ppl aside from you that recognize my opinion, who share my experiences, who have felt the same from "angry pro editors". If not then they are here to sympathize with me on the faulty experiences I, and any other aspiring editor, have had while seeking solutions.
Heres a thought... instead of labeling other peoples concerns as trolls, because that is easy when you have nothing else to say, try contributing to the topic substantively rather than making yourself look like some degree of a "angry pro editor".
true i can terrian... but im still really just a noob, I dont open the editor without asking a question...
the editing for dummys by dummys was serious... im really planning that out... i think a problem new editors have is that Pros explain things to them but they skip things that they would consider common knowlege and people get lost
Edit: I had a reason for calling the thread trolling, but I no longer remember what that was LAWL.
though you have attacked me... I dont hold it against you... still feel free to ask for any help, but read a tutorial first, and then ask and I will help you on any part you dont understand if I can. or show you a simpler way of doing it( If I know one)
all I have done is giving you suggestions where to learn...
ok,
I apologize for being over aggressive with you about this. I mistook your statement as a way of demeaning what I, and others, were expressing.
I admire and support your "editing for dummies by dummies" idea and i think its' cause could help a lot of new editors.
I hope you continue to fill in the gaps for the new people of the editor community.
Hey this is a good point about the search bar on sc2mapster. It is pretty bad sometimes at finding results. For some reason almost all of the good results get scattered amongst 5-6 pages, with completely irrelevant results making up most of the list.
Anyone else found that? It's not a big deal but it seems inaccurate.
Can't emphasize this enough.
Sometimes I know exactly what thread I am searching for, I write 90% of the EXACT thread title into the search bar, only to find the thread I'm searching for on page 2 or 3, topped by junk threads which contain no information at all. Happens rarely, usually if you know what you are searching for you will find it pretty fast, but I swear it happened to me like this.
And also there are just a lot of threads which contain a question but never got solved. This is especially true for older threads from may 2010 until like october or november 2010.

I think a good solution to this would be if mods could like "Save" post that answer the problem and delete post that didnt... But im sure they do alot of work already and this would be another huge thing.
Well it is called micromanagement, and it could be key for success of this website.
New post anyone?
Guess this thread is locked? Don't know what that means, or why it happened, or whats going to happen to this thead now but maybe someone didn't think to highly of it.
I see that it does have a lot of posts lol but you gotta start somewhere.
but why is this thread locked?
Isn't this general chat? If people are responding then isn't it worth keeping up?
Encourage the activity of its members. This thread hasnt threatened anyone and I think there is a need for the matter i am addressing. It's proactive ultimately.
lol just don't know.
The threads not locked.... otherwise I couldnt post this message LAWL
Honestly if you want to help the site, what you can do is Like what I do
Anytime you have a useful peice of information on a subject post it, this keeps threads active and the rest of the community post more often because they get SOME information, Some is better then nothing
Just dont flame
and only troll WITHIN your real post..
Like the small Queens gone wild joke, its trolling, BUT it keeps the mood light.
As an expert in the data side of things I have a voice to be heard (or read).
The search bar only searches the forum you are currently in and any branching forums from it. If you search from the forums page you get alot more false positives because it is finding all the comments in the offtopic forum as well as triggers when you want data.
Often you get noobs bumping threads less than two hours after them posting it. If you want to have your topic answered just wait 24-48 hours before bumping because there are different time zones and sometimes people are busy so dont get round to checking.
Yeah the editor is complex and there is always new stuff to learn, that is why we have the wiki. If you figure something out that is unknown just fill it in (before me no one even knew what the Battery type ability did)
The editor is big, I am about the best person there is for questions involving the data editor but that is all I have had time to learn. I have not even touched the trigger editor except to delete the melee triggers.
If you are a beginner in the data editor dont be afraid to post a pic that is not a link to some obscure bucket of a site. Also if the answers are not fitting what you are posting (usually due to badly spelt and unclear questions) upload a copy of the map. If you are struggling with the really basic stuff then your map is probably not that special yet so there is no need to keep it in secrecy and get offended if people ask to look at it.
It also helps if people dont flame about there not being a tutorial on whatever before they have even bothered to look at the tutorials section of the site.
There are often several approaches of reaching the same goal so dont get offended if people recommend doing it differently, especially if they give a reason.
Sorry to be a pain in the ass about it, but calling yourselves "pro" sounds very wrong to me... If you don't edit/build levels for a living, you're NOT a pro. I'm just stating the obvious here. You're more like "skilled amateurs", you make maps just for fun and I'm also pretty sure you don't master multiple level editors as pros have to. Who, among us all, already have 6+ months of experience in the video games industry? As I said earlier, besides one member here and myself, I don't know of any. Even pros make lots of mistakes, it's not like these kinds of jobs can be learned 100% by the book.
As far as I can tell, the guys treating others like garbage are just egocentric bitches, and they are nowhere near pros themselves. Based on that, you shouldn't even listen to them. They won't give you any better advice than anyone, chances are they're just trying to impress. You can't change people, but at least you can leave stupid ones aside. I agree the search function in our forums could use some improvements, but still, when you learn how to use it properly 95% of your questions (as a newbie, that is) will find an answer or at least a clue here. That's all you'll need, the rest is up to your own creativity and dedication.
I'd say "expert" is a more apt term than "pro" in this sense, but keep in mind that sometimes there is money to be made in SC2 modding in the cases of very serious projects.
I see that it does have a lot of posts lol but you gotta start somewhere.

reason why the duplicate thread is locked: it is a duplicate. it contains a link to this thread so people can post replies etc.
as I listed also as reason in that thread: "duplicate thread. Reply at this thread".

This sight is very awesome.. regarding the search box, I actually type in my name to find responses to my posts. Bnet does have an upper hand in accessability. No offense mapster.
I made bold the things that I felt in your response. well said good sir!
People are complete and utter douchebags especially when they think they are above everyone else. I on the other hand am not, I have more knowledge than others simply because I have invested more time in learning than anyone else. I wish I had a mentor that could help me, but as I was told once in IRC - I shouldnt be asking questions cause if I can't fgure it out I'm fucked, no one else has done what I've done before. I am laying The road.
If I see someone doing something wrong I tell them, this makes me a 'dick' cause I don't care about their feelings, I care more about them wasting their time. When I get time I usually post a shitload of answers in the trigger forum, hence my posting is in waves. Most of the time I am 'free' when I can't figure somethin out for tofu so I'm in a bad mood. This doesnt help but I try and give out m knowledge as much as possible.
If someone asks me something I answer everytime. I don't hide my knowledge. At the same time I Won't do their work for them. Don't put me in the same head up their ass group as icefrog and eckonovkol. I help people when I can. They could never be fucked. =\
In a few weeks I should have more free time cause tofu engine is 100% finished and just finishing off custom art. So once released as log as nothing goes wrong I should have about 4 hours everyday to start writin tutorials and getting all my knowledge out for people to use.
I know I come off hard most times, but my heart is in the right place. Give me time. I'm alot happier these days.
Ps. Written on my iPhone. U owe me. Any grammar mistakes blame apple.
